My professor was talking about this in class, and it looked pretty cool so I thought I'd share.

"Toshiba claims entangled photon breakthrough"

"Researchers at Cambridge University and Toshiba have announced a new quantum device that produces entangled photons, a promising technology for quantum encryption."

"Atomic particles 'teleported'"

"Teleportation--"sending" atoms, or at least their properties, through space without any physical movement--is possible, according to scientists at the National Institute for Standards and Technologies. "

Basically, from my very limited quantum mechanics knowledge, I believe this allows you to seperate two photons (like siamese twins) and have one on the opposite side of the earth. Then, whatever happens on one photon will cause the other photon to act the exact same way.

Eventually, you could be able to use this in things like satellites to get instantaneous data retrieval without having to send any information between the satellite and the ground control.

That sounds alot like the anciblefrom the novel ender's game.Just imagine instantly communicating to,let's say,Mars without any delay.I think it currently takes about 20min. for a signal travelling@c to reach mars.Real time remote control rovers with absolutely no lag.Awesome! This technology also has a very promising future in data storage,How 'bout a hard drive with a 0ms access rate!!
Glad to see someone else is interested in quantum mechanics. My family hates me because of my "incoherent physics rambling"that I refer to as intelligent conversation. rolleyes.gif So what are your views on warping space?Think it's feasable? smile.gif
