WXGA is an iffy designation, it can indicate a resolution of anything from 1280x720 to 1366x768.

Up for grabs on eBay.

why are you selling it?? Any reason that would deter me from building with it? If there is I would like to know so I can return it and do the 1080p Build!

No, sorry for the misunderstanding, I'm not selling it, I ran across it looking for other deals.

So wooz, when are you going to start your plog? I'm interested in seeing some more detailed pics of your setup using this lcd, and your build. I wasn't 100% satisfied with the specs of this TV, but I got tired of looking and went ahead and grabbed one of the refurbs since there was a 10% off deal. I figure its my first build so if it doesn't work out it'll at least be a test lcd. Man, like some who got it from the Philips outlet, it came in a beat up box with only buble wrap on one side (!), half of a manual (only had 30 zeroxed pages of the 45+page manual), and the unit looked like it was thrown off a building. I mean, the plastic case had gouges and scratches all over it and looked like someone tried to pry it open with a crowbar, I kid you not. Plus, the remote didn't have a battery (one of those odd watch size batteries), and it didn't even come with a power cord. Luckily I had a similar cord to test with and I was planning to strip it, otherwise if I was the average Joe consumer I would have called and raised hell. The only thing I'm worried about is there's a few dead pixels on the screen. I don't know how much they will translate to a projection. Beware the Philips outlet unless you plan to take it apart. They also don't take take returns.

Man I starting to feel lucky,

I got my phillips from the outlet and case was in good shape, no dead pixels, power cable, remote battery. Wierd that you had so many problems and Ihad none. Also, I have stripped my phillips panel today but Im not gonna upload pics tille I get the frames done tommorow or wed. Kind of a batch upload if u will. So keep an eye on my plog for strip, ghetto frames, etc.

The way things are going, you folks will probably have yours finished long before mine. The old setup with the Philips panel and the new pro lens is working ok (as long as it doesn’t get bumped too hard). It was put together to get something going, then hung in limbo for over a year while the lens issues were getting worked out.

As far as progress on the new enclosure goes, I have some new parts to try, a S400DD Lamp with a coil ballast and a pro reflector. I ordered a new set of pro fresnels, cut the top and bottom's of them to match the panel, made the frames and have almost finished a drawing so I can start cutting out the enclosure. This time around I’m definitely not going to rush it.

Some issues up in the air:

I’m having a little trouble deciding what to do with the set’s IR sensor (the projector is behind the seats). I currently use an IR blaster (repeater) LED to overcome this.

Once I find a place on the set’s circuit board with enough current to fire a solid state relay, I hope to use the remotes on/off to control both the bulb/fan and the TV.

As for the inputs, (I’m using all except the composite) I plan to use couplers thru the wall of the enclosure, and then patch cords to the set.

One problem though, the VGA connector sticks up so that in the new build, it may get into the light path. Has anyone seen a right angle VGA cable?

I’m sorry for all the trouble people have had with Philips outlet. As I said, I got my set thru Philips Auctions. I started the review before I ordered the second set for a friend thru Philips Outlet (the only one that had it) and had some of the same problems.

Well... I called Philips about my dead pixels and they want me to send it to their Depot for repair. Turn around time about 1 month, and shipping at my expense. Those bastards. Again, beware the online store.

Those Bastards... If they were missing stuff call them up and they will ship you the missing parts. I called them and they sent me a new powercord, fm antenna, and vga adaptor. I can't wait until you post some pictures. I need to figure out how I am going to lay everything out inside this thing. I wonder if it is possible to piggyback on the IR receiver and add one on the outside of the box. Does it look like an easy spot that you could soder on? I am in the process of moving so it has really slowed down my project. I have to figure out what type of wood I am going to use yet. I was thinking of using 1/2 oak or something like that. 1/2 would be much lighter. I am going to build a box similar to joe's bakery.

Do you guys have any good sources for the couplers? I was looking to use them as well. Looks nice if there are not any cables hanging off the box. Also I was looking at the picture of the LCD it looks like the fcc's are at a 90 degree angle. Does that bored move out of the way of the screen?

At this point, I really hate to recommend anybody, but monoprice.com has all kinds of cables/adapters/couplers at dirt cheap prices. I've ordered from them a few times, once, they misplaced a payment that delayed the order, but the items were of a useable decent quality considering what I paid for them. I’m thinking of trying one of their HDMI switchers.

The fcc's are heavier than on most panels. In the current setup, I siliconed the lcd to It’s metal frame then mounted the board 180 deg. from it’s normal position, so yes, they seem flexible enough.

thanks for the reply on that... I am just trying to gather as much info as I can, so once I am moved I can start building my box and everything. smile.gif Man I am excited. I almost went home to my parents house to work in their shop, but I ended up at the local mexican restaurant drinking their HUGE margaritas instead and hardly even making it home now smile.gif
Trofeo99
I got the 15" version of it

chan
is this model for 4:3 only. thanks
cpsubrian
Im sure I quite understand your question chan.... but if you mean does this monitor only display 4:3 then the answer is most definitely no. This monitor/TV, from my 3 months experience, plays every format imaginable.

Also, If anyone is interested in a somewhat done build using this monitor just check out my plog (link below). I will put up more construction pics when I rebuild, but more projection screens are comign soon because I just removed the antiglare and some other rear layers.

Hey wooz.... hows the projector going? I just FINALLY stripped my LCD TV like yours. I did the AG removal with no problems, but my question for you is Did you remove the ag from only 1 side? I'm not sure if I have AG on both sides? I see some sorta blue tint film on the back of the panel, and I am not sure if I should remove it or not. Also with your pro setup are you doing your frez split or both on the back side of the projector? Just looking for a bit of input. Thanks
