It could be done but not without significant hassle. With so many 12V PS in the world it just isn't worth it.

One of the easiest things to do, which I will be using in my projector when I build it, is to use an old power supply from a computer.

Depending on the combination of wires, you can get many different voltages out of them, and most have significant current to drive whatever you wish (but dont drive the bulb from it!!)

I have some 5 volt fans which are quiet, which I will run off the red/black wires of the power supply. The LCD takes 12v and 3.5A, which I will run off the yellow/black wires.

If for some reason you need 24 volts, you can find that in there too. I currently have forgotten the -12V lead colour, but you can hook up the +12V (Yellow) and the -12V (grey maybe??) to make 24v. You can do the same with the 5v and -12v to make 17!

Just remember to connect the green lead to a black lead to turn the power supply on!

Good stuff

It wouldnt work in his particular case because he would have 2 +6V supplies.

You could take one apart, and flip the polarity to create a -6V supply, then the two together would form 12V.

But like the other person mentioned, it wouldnt be worth it. a 12V is only about $8 at wallmart or so. Not worth the time.

Hey guys
All good advice and if I had an old PC suppily I wouls have done that but I managed to round one up that will do the job.
