That's way cool. I was considering the coffee table concept myself. I really have no idea how we are going to live with a large box taking up space in our livingroom.
I have to get to work right now, but I'll describe my pc when I get back. Thanks for the info.

Welcome Kingofswords, I also live in Canada (BC), and just completed my projector a few weeks ago.
Setup as of now:
Lumenlab lens kit
400W BT28\HOR EYE from EECOL
Sylvania tri-tap ballast from EECOL
Norpro
54" blackout cloth from Fabricland
Viewsonic N6
BenQ 567s version 2
If anyone can find blackout larger then 54" let me know, I can't find it anywhere in Canada. Fabricland can't get it; even specialty drapery shops can't seem to get anything longer then 54".
Cheers,
Lee

How large of a piece are you looking for...
a 54" blackout cloth (which is what I have believe) will give you a 96" wide screen (if using 16:9).
Thats a 110" diag screen is it not?
take a few inches off everything for borders if needed.... but still a very large screen

Dangerboy,
The 54" blackout works for movies, however, I want to play PS2 and Xbox as well as PC games.

Norlander, can you order from Wal~Mart Online and have it shipped to Canada?
They have Roc-Ion 105" x 80" for about $40 US -- but it's Online Only -- I ordered one yesterday... here's the link:

Ack, sorry my northern friends! I'm shocked that WalMart only ships to USA addys -- figured they would be trying to take over the entire world by now.
Anyway, if Roc-Ion makes it, and Walmart sells it, it has to be available somewhere else too. Hmmmmmm....

Dangerboy,
I watch a lot of tv so I had a pc set up as a pvr:
Athlon XP 1900 on an nForce2 board
512megs of ram
120, 200, & 250 gig drives
1 Hauppague PVR250, 1 ATI e-Home Wonder capture card, Waiting on 1 other Hauppauge card.
So, I can essentially capture 2 channels at a time right now so I don't lose anything due to conflicts. Hopefully I'll get this up to 3 channels.
I use SageTV for the pvr software. It's really cool. Not perfect, but it can handle multiple capture cards. When it works, it works great.
So, I believe I will be in the same boat as Norlander soon, looking for a screen that can deal with both regular tv format and 16:9 movies.

Even more 105 x 80 Roc-Ion...and another place -- they also ship to Canada -- price is also $65.
...and another link for Big Ass Blackout for the Canadians!Hope that hooks ya up, sorry again about the false alarm on the Walmart thing... still can't imagine why they don't ship to Canada.

If anyone is interested, I found these at Futureshop.ca: the NEC 1515-R and 1565-R. Both under $400 Canadian. I posted in the Untested Products thread, but no one responded with any hands on experience.

Those that have used the Roc-Ion product has reported it as being flat white on the "rubberized" side -- and almost ideal for the DIY projector application.

Hi Skanmyth. I have not yet found a place to buy tempered glass. I am going to make some calls tomorrow. I do have a 13"x13" piece coming in from DIYLabs just in case, but of course it means my box will be a little bigger than it needs to be. I'll let you know if I find anything. How far along are you in your project anyhow? I wouldn't mind comparing notes with you since we are in the same area.
Thanks for the link. I am planning on building my projects with an electronic ballast. I really don't dig the weight of the magnetic ones.

Still waiting for a source for bulbs locally. I'm gonna try and pick up one of the new bulbs Brainchild is planning on selling from here later on.

Hi KingOfSwords,
I know I may have spend more on the fan but I was thinking if I buy 12V cheep fans then I have to buy a 12v adapter as well and 12V 100 CFM fans are not very cheep either

so finally I end up buying the 120V 112CFM ball baring on ebay.
I am going to call couple of electrical shops for the bulb tomorrow I called one yesterday they said they have to get the bulb from a shop in Montreal and will cost $78.00 if your interested we can ask for a discount for ordering 2 bulbs.
I live in Barrie I checked speedyglass has a shop here I will call them and order if its $25 thanks for the information. I have ordered UV Filter from lumenlab do you think to give extra protection its worth going for UV coated glass?
KingOfSwords
Jul 23 2004, 05:29 AM
Skanmyth, you misunderstand, I was speaking of 120v fans, not 12v. I found them for $15 at Active Surplus. We overpaid for our ebay fans.
If you have the UV film coming in already, then you can probably do without the custom uv coating. I didn't get any details on that, so I don't know how clear the coating is. When you order, don't forget to tell them NOT to stamp it.

Is that $78 just for the bulb or does that include shipping? It sounds more expensive than it should be I think, if it's just the bulb price.
Skanmyth
Jul 23 2004, 12:27 PM
KingOfSwords, $15 for 120v and if its over 100CFM fan? its dam cheep I don't think you will get cheaper than that at least people who are reading this form looking for fan will know where to buy now
Bulb price $78 was to pickup at there Toronto store its
Jomar Electric (416) 536-2194
Most of the online electrical are selling the bulb for $40.00 + $15 Shipping to Canada =$US55.00 = CA$74.00, If we are lucky we will save the dutys

Okay, I got an email back a guy named Stan at www.mercurylighting.com in Concord, Ontario. I had asked about the EYEs the Ushios and ballasts. This is what he sent back:
M400SX/HOR/CL/BT28 "EYE" $54.50ea. 3 WEEK DELIVERY
MS400/HOR/ED28 "VENTURE" $42.95ea.
71A60A1001D 400W TRI-TAP $55.00ea. (MAGNETIC HID)
So, he probably can't get the Ushios and electronic ballasts are probably going to be hard to find here. And I guess he doesn't have the EYE's in stock. He didn't include any shipping info tho. I'm trying to get that now.

I just put the order through to Lumenlab for lens, fresnel, bulb and UV kit.
Do you have your screen yet ? (so far it is the hardest decision for me)
I will also only start the box when I have all the parts, but I am pretty sure that I will go with aluminium railings for the fresnels (I have unlimited access to it through my father in law) and I am not too overly concerned by this.
