That's way cool. I was considering the coffee table concept myself. I really have no idea how we are going to live with a large box taking up space in our livingroom.

I have to get to work right now, but I'll describe my pc when I get back. Thanks for the info.
Norlander
Welcome Kingofswords, I also live in Canada (BC), and just completed my projector a few weeks ago.

Setup as of now:

Lumenlab lens kit
400W BT28\HOR EYE from EECOL
Sylvania tri-tap ballast from EECOL
Norpro
54" blackout cloth from Fabricland
Viewsonic N6
BenQ 567s version 2

If anyone can find blackout larger then 54" let me know, I can't find it anywhere in Canada. Fabricland can't get it; even specialty drapery shops can't seem to get anything longer then 54".

Cheers,
Lee
DangerBoy
How large of a piece are you looking for...

a 54" blackout cloth (which is what I have believe) will give you a 96" wide screen (if using 16:9).

Thats a 110" diag screen is it not?

take a few inches off everything for borders if needed.... but still a very large screen
Norlander
Dangerboy,

The 54" blackout works for movies, however, I want to play PS2 and Xbox as well as PC games.

Cheers,
Lee
KingOfSwords
Norlander...Hi. What did you use for your fan? And where did you buy the N6?
DrudgeMart
Norlander, can you order from Wal~Mart Online and have it shipped to Canada?

They have Roc-Ion 105" x 80" for about $40 US -- but it's Online Only -- I ordered one yesterday... here's the link:

WalMart's Big Ass Blackout Cloth

~DM~
KingOfSwords
wow..that had potential, except:
" At this time, we do not ship to Canada, Puerto Rico or other destinations outside the U.S."
DrudgeMart
Ack, sorry my northern friends! I'm shocked that WalMart only ships to USA addys -- figured they would be trying to take over the entire world by now.

Anyway, if Roc-Ion makes it, and Walmart sells it, it has to be available somewhere else too. Hmmmmmm....

KingOfSwords
Dangerboy,

I watch a lot of tv so I had a pc set up as a pvr:
Athlon XP 1900 on an nForce2 board
512megs of ram
120, 200, & 250 gig drives
1 Hauppague PVR250, 1 ATI e-Home Wonder capture card, Waiting on 1 other Hauppauge card.
So, I can essentially capture 2 channels at a time right now so I don't lose anything due to conflicts. Hopefully I'll get this up to 3 channels.
I use SageTV for the pvr software. It's really cool. Not perfect, but it can handle multiple capture cards. When it works, it works great.

So, I believe I will be in the same boat as Norlander soon, looking for a screen that can deal with both regular tv format and 16:9 movies.
DrudgeMart
Found a place that ships to Canada, but it's pretty pricey -- $72 usd.

105 x 80 Roc-Ion Blackout Cloth

Here's another place with the Roc-Ion that ships Internationally sells it for $65.

Even more 105 x 80 Roc-Ion

...and another place -- they also ship to Canada -- price is also $65.

...and another link for Big Ass Blackout for the Canadians!

Hope that hooks ya up, sorry again about the false alarm on the Walmart thing... still can't imagine why they don't ship to Canada.

~DM~
KingOfSwords
Wow...thanks for the links! Do you happen to know if the material is white? Instead of something like ivory...when I went to Fabricland they had white and ivory.
KingOfSwords
If anyone is interested, I found these at Futureshop.ca: the NEC 1515-R and 1565-R. Both under $400 Canadian. I posted in the Untested Products thread, but no one responded with any hands on experience.

Those that have used the Roc-Ion product has reported it as being flat white on the "rubberized" side -- and almost ideal for the DIY projector application.

Cath
Welcome among us Big Show, hope you have a blast putting your PJ together smile.gif
Norlander
Kewl deal brainchild, I wanted to find a Canadian supplier, I am still on the lookout for anyone in Canada. I will order the blackout as soon as you have it available, I just can't wait to find some over priced Canadian outlet.

Also we're switching to global express which should eliminate the delays (we hope) at customs.
KingOfSwords
Okay, I broke down and ordered 2 Artic fans off ebay. They set up shipping to Canada, but it was essentially the same price as the fans themselves so it was rather pricey.
KingOfSwords
I was wondering if anyone has purchased tempered glass in Toronto, and if so, where?

Hi everyone,

From Ottawa Ontario. Just an FYI for those who are looking fo lighting supplies, I got my stuff from : Litemor Lighting 1290 Old Innes RD.

Check your local yellow pages under "Lighting suppliers" and "Glass" for all your light and glass requirements. I got the 400 Watt reduced jacket bulb, ballast and socket for $163 Taxes included.

Is there anyone from Ottawa in these forums??

KingOfSwords
Kaiser...Hi. I'm from Toronto. Did you get a magnetic ballast or an electronic one?
kaiser
I got the magnetic one.
Skanmyth
Hi kaiser,

Did you get a M400SX/BT28/HOR "EYE" light ? or deferent bulb with the same spec?
Skanmyth
Hi KingOfSwords,

I am from Toronto whare did you buy the tempered glass?

if your looking for magnetic bllast Ideal supply is selling for $60 check there website for locations http://www.idealsupply.com/main.asp?action=G1
KingOfSwords
Hi Skanmyth. I have not yet found a place to buy tempered glass. I am going to make some calls tomorrow. I do have a 13"x13" piece coming in from DIYLabs just in case, but of course it means my box will be a little bigger than it needs to be. I'll let you know if I find anything. How far along are you in your project anyhow? I wouldn't mind comparing notes with you since we are in the same area.

Thanks for the link. I am planning on building my projects with an electronic ballast. I really don't dig the weight of the magnetic ones. smile.gif

Still waiting for a source for bulbs locally. I'm gonna try and pick up one of the new bulbs Brainchild is planning on selling from here later on.
kaiser
HI Skanmyth,

I got the M400SX/BT28/HOR "EYE" bulb.
KingOfSwords
Kaiser, what's their phone number?
Skanmyth
Hi KingOfSwords

I have got my LCD Benq PF591 I striped it last night, now I got the LCD measurement going to get the boards cut for enclosure today.

Got all indicator lights and fuse holder from http://www.e-sonic.ca

Ordered the 120v fan from ebay cost me US$22.00 with shipping. (shipped )
Ordered Lens and electronic ballast from Lumaenlab (shipped)

I am looking for M400SX/BT28/HOR "EYE" bulb, Tempered glass & 120v bimetal thermal switch. I don't have much time today may be I will call some places tomorrow.

Hi Kaiser,

how much did you pay for your bulb?
KingOfSwords
Hey, that's too bad about the fan...I bought 2 off ebay also, but then I found some in Toronto for $15 CAD. If I can find out about the bulbs from Kaiser, I'll call and see if they have more than one available.
KingOfSwords
Called www.speedyglass.com...they said that a 1/8" piece of tempered glass abput 12" square would be in the neighbourhood of $25. UV coating about $10 more. The location I called was on Bloor near Keele.
Skanmyth
Hi KingOfSwords,

I know I may have spend more on the fan but I was thinking if I buy 12V cheep fans then I have to buy a 12v adapter as well and 12V 100 CFM fans are not very cheep either dry.gif so finally I end up buying the 120V 112CFM ball baring on ebay.

I am going to call couple of electrical shops for the bulb tomorrow I called one yesterday they said they have to get the bulb from a shop in Montreal and will cost $78.00 if your interested we can ask for a discount for ordering 2 bulbs.

I live in Barrie I checked speedyglass has a shop here I will call them and order if its $25 thanks for the information. I have ordered UV Filter from lumenlab do you think to give extra protection its worth going for UV coated glass?
KingOfSwords
Skanmyth, you misunderstand, I was speaking of 120v fans, not 12v. I found them for $15 at Active Surplus. We overpaid for our ebay fans.

If you have the UV film coming in already, then you can probably do without the custom uv coating. I didn't get any details on that, so I don't know how clear the coating is. When you order, don't forget to tell them NOT to stamp it. smile.gif

Is that $78 just for the bulb or does that include shipping? It sounds more expensive than it should be I think, if it's just the bulb price.
Skanmyth
KingOfSwords, $15 for 120v and if its over 100CFM fan? its dam cheep I don't think you will get cheaper than that at least people who are reading this form looking for fan will know where to buy now smile.gif

Bulb price $78 was to pickup at there Toronto store its Jomar Electric (416) 536-2194

Most of the online electrical are selling the bulb for $40.00 + $15 Shipping to Canada =$US55.00 = CA$74.00, If we are lucky we will save the dutys
KingOfSwords
I have another lighting place sendng me info on the EYE bulbs and the Ushios. I'll post when I get it.
velvetlabrat
Hey, I'm from Canada too, Halifax area. For anyone else on the East Coast, I just picked up 2 meters of blackout cloth from Atlantic Fabrics for $16 and some change after tax, Canadian dollars!
Skanmyth
I did some search and got the Phone # where kaiser got his light its

Litemor Distributors
1290 Old Innes Rd
Ottawa, ON K1B 5M6
(613) 726-6666

they gave me there toronto store # its 416 745-3806
I called about 5 deferent places I got price from $75-95 and every one said the same story there is only 2 bulbs available in Canada and 2 of them are in a store in Montreal

So I ordered with Litemor Distributors in Toronto they are charging $75 and its free shipping you can ask for Shake.

don't buy Sylvania they dont meet our specs check this I did a research on Sylvania before buying osrem check there specs http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?s...180&#entry19611
KingOfSwords
Okay, I got an email back a guy named Stan at www.mercurylighting.com in Concord, Ontario. I had asked about the EYEs the Ushios and ballasts. This is what he sent back:

M400SX/HOR/CL/BT28 "EYE" $54.50ea. 3 WEEK DELIVERY
MS400/HOR/ED28 "VENTURE" $42.95ea.
71A60A1001D 400W TRI-TAP $55.00ea. (MAGNETIC HID)

So, he probably can't get the Ushios and electronic ballasts are probably going to be hard to find here. And I guess he doesn't have the EYE's in stock. He didn't include any shipping info tho. I'm trying to get that now.
KingOfSwords
Oh, I have to mention that I got in my LiquidVideo monitor from California today. It is pretty sweet. Yet, it turned out to be cheaper than anything I could get here even with the shipping and I didn't get nailed with duty charges (I have to wait and see because fedex might bill me later via mail).

Tempered glass in ottawa:

http://www.centennialglass.com/default.html

Cost me $27.00 and 3 days ahead order. I placed the order over the phone with a CC.

I am looking for 120V fans. Any suppliers from ottawa or Toronto?

Thanks.
KingOfSwords
Kaiser...I got an extra fan if you want one. PM me.
kaiser
dang .. I just went out and bought one from radioshack shortly after I posted over here.

It was $40.00 for a 60 CFM fan..
KingOfSwords
I am not sure if 60 cfm will be enough. But, that sure was a lot of money. smile.gif You might want to consider returning it.
Skanmyth
I got KEST471BT 120V 112 CFM fan on mail today I checked if its working good ho man this one blows air like a big fan I am impressed with the CFM rate. I have to agree fan make more noise but should be able to reduce the sound by using some air filter cloth.
nolz
just want to say hi to my fellow canadians. it's nice to see this canadian forum grow.

If anyone is ready to order some tempered glass in the GTA, I would not mind adding to a group order to get a better price.

If anyone is interested, please PM me.
KingOfSwords
I have not yet ordered my glass. I am STILL waiting for all my lenses to arrive so I can start measuring and planning the setup.
neda
I just put the order through to Lumenlab for lens, fresnel, bulb and UV kit.

Do you have your screen yet ? (so far it is the hardest decision for me)

I will also only start the box when I have all the parts, but I am pretty sure that I will go with aluminium railings for the fresnels (I have unlimited access to it through my father in law) and I am not too overly concerned by this.
