I originally posted this in the Intelligent Video Projector Design Forums, but I believe it belongs here

Hey there guys! I'm looking for a really nice 17 Inch LCD Monitor For my Projection setup, I'd really like it to have Sync On Green so I dont need the whole converter thing for gaming, and if possible not too hard to dissasemble

I know we don't live in a perfect world So any reccomendations will do! this is pretty much strictly for gaming

HID Ballast 400w High Pressure Sodium ~ $40.00 Purchased
USHIO UHI S400D Lamp ~ $46.84 Purchased
Mogule Light Base ~ $10.00 Purchased
330/330 Fresnel Lenses w/ Long Thrown Lense Kit ~ 162.88 Purchased

Thats my setup thus far Thank you!

I think I've decided to go with this one:

Samsung 712N 17 inch flat panel monitor

Contrast 600:1
Refresh 12ms
Resolution 1280X1024
No FFC issues
16.7 Million colors

It has a significantly lower Responce Time compared to the Dell 1702FP LCD and also has Sync on Green, it is a little more, but for the lower responce time, plus the safety of sync on green, I think i'll be pretty happy with it smile.gif anyone chime in if they use this bad boy or not?

I don't believe that High Pressure Sodium ballast will work for your bulb, get a Metal Halide ballast. If your looking for a monitor strictly based on gaming, you would want one with a good response time, this one is pricy but it has a 3ms response time http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16824236003
Just browse eBay and Newegg for a monitor with relatively high contrast, around 500:1 and up, and a good response time, around 16ms and lower.'

Anyone correct me if I am wrong about using a High Pressure Sodium ballast with the Ushio S400D

I gathered from what they've done that it'd work, so i'm pretty sure it will

Yeah, I just double checked, they reccomend that ballast with specifically that bulb, and its supposed to work really well, but be kinda heavy smile.gif

Oh and heres the specs on the monitor:
nitor Type Flat Panel LCD TFT (Active Matrix)
Size 17"
Contrast Ratio 600:1
Aspect Ratio 4:3
Max. Resolution 1280 x 1024
Brightness 300 cd/m
Response Time 12 ms
Dot Pitch .264 mm
Color Depth 24-bit (16.7M Colors)
Viewable Picture Size 17 in.

I actually have a Xerox LCD 19 inch right now with almost a 20 MS responce, and it looks fantastic in gamming, 12 should be just about right, and from what I'm told 8 or lower is pretty much perfect, it seems like a great monitor, and I read in the Forums that it doesn't have any FFC problems.

Hmm, after further looking into the monitor I'm not 100% sure or not if it supports 720p and it doesnt support HDCP, can anyone comment if I plugged a VGA Cable into this monitor if it would support 720p or not?

Hmm, After ALOT of reading i've decided to go with the dell 1702FP again, i've seen some really good results with it, so I'll pick up a Vdigi Transcoder and the FFC Extension and call it a Day smile.gif

I'm very excited to see how gaming goes on this bad boy

Dell 1702FP
17" 4:3
1280x1024
Contrast advertised: 500:1
Contrast tested: 892:1
25ms
16.7 Million
1 FFC 20pole .5mm (easily extended)

From everywhere I've read it seems that the 1702FP has a Responce time of only 16ms, is that correct?

I'm going to be playing alot of racing games and FPS's, So I'd like the responce time to be as low as it can be...if anyone can chime in with a monitor around 200 that would suit me Freel free to chime in smile.gif
