Hello & might I say that this is a great forum with lots of info and excellent advice.

Took the plunge to build a 15"

Here is what I have.

Benq 557s V2
LL Mega Kit (in transit)

My plan is to build a standard box & make the mounts for the reflector and mogul base highly configurable.

I would like to try removing the antiglare & I will also go with gravity keystoning.

There are some great ideas for these in plogs already so I will try to incorporate the best ones in this project.

Will try as best I can to document & provide pics as I go.

Welcome Drewzy- Have fun, can't wait to see how it turns out!

Thanks for the encouragement

Just got the Mega kit & an extra bulb and evercool.

I must say that L.L. did a great job packing. I wasn't expecting to get the package before Xmas.

All that is left to get is reflector and Lexan.

Anyone have any suggestions on Lexan thickness or preference of Lexan over tempered glass??

Thanks for the help.

Lexan is easy to work with, should be lighter, more forgiving, provides some UV blocking, is drillable, pretty darn cheap, and probably easier to find. I like it smile.gif Can't help you with thickness though, I just bought whatever Homedepot had. Good luck!

Hope this works, just trying to post an image.

Basically, wondering if it is ok to take a 3/4" piece of plywood, cut out center for lexan, fresnel, route edges to sit fresnel and lexan into,
causing sealed air gap between lexan & fresnel.

Would it be a good idea to place uv filter on fresnel (lamp side)?

Thanks

Drewzy.

Will have some pics soon as I have started and have cabinet with cooling fans & ballast mounted.

Tried to post a jpg image but didn't go.

What am I doing wrong.

When it asked me for the image url, I pointed to my home directory & image.

i.e. /home/Drewzy/lexan.jpg

Let's try that image again.

Found my mistake.

I was using the image insert tool in the text editor as opposed to inserting using the attachment tool.

As a footnote, the inside dimensions of this box are " 28.5 X 16.5 X 11".

I have to make the box extra wide (16.5") to accomodate the longer s400dd bulb that was shipped recently.

Just finished the frame to hold the lexan and rear fresnel.

The frame is routed on both sides so that lexen is on one side with fresnel on other.

Planning on siliconing both to frame so that air gap insulation between reduces transfer of heat.

Also placed wood screws to adjust for 1/2" gap at bottom of frame.

Here is the thermostat that I am thinking of using for auto fan control on poweroff. I took the idea from someone elses plog.
Up here in Canada, couldn't source attic fan thermostats (even from Home Depot) so took a baseboard heater thermostat and reversed the bi-metal strip. This one wasn't easy, as the bimetal strip and the post that hits the switch were riveted to the main frame.

Wiring is now completed and tested for the fans and ballast.

Might put in the thermostat at a later date. Main switch provides power to fans and to second switch.

Second switch controls lamp.

The relector is going to be JB welded to the fan screen and the screws can be turned for front to back adjustment
while the springs provide tension

Just tried my first test shoot with all the lenses installed and a transparency as a test image and I must say that I am impressed with the brightness, considering :

I don't have my reflector yet.

I don't have any light leaks sealed.

It is daytime and I have no blinds on the window.
