Surplus Shed has one of these DLP projectors with missing light source.
.surplusshed DLP projector

I'm not sure where to post this, but I've watched the little video over at texas instruments on how the dlp works and I was wondering if one could buy one of these kits and use one's own light source.

Sure it may of been made to work with xenon bulbs, but I think the only down side would be a shorter throw distance and lesser brightness than a xenon bulb, but If all you needed was this and a light bulb than that would be one bad ass DIY projector.

I'm in college so one of you rich people should experiement for the benefit of man kind smile.gif

I think those are very early prototypes, but I might be wrong. Anyways, SurplusShed doesn't know if they even work, maybe they need special software? I wrote them about it but they never responded which not like them at all. I can't afford to keep testing but I did think about buying one of those. Something that bothered me was, even if they work, they could have harsh rainbow (or what ever you call that problem that DLP has)

dangling cords means missing compoants...

I one time bought RPTVDLP engines, they had DVI ports on them but only responded to only the theyre controler..

if anyone interested ide sell off the remains, one set powers up but displays checkered pattern only
(has everything including TV buttons)

I got these from some one, I traded an old ps2 and crap-mac for 3 sets.
I have no idea y i cant get it to display anything other than a checkered pattern.
also has light purple streaks.
getting these going would be jsut grand.... seing as I have 3 8k hour bulbs fer em..

I may be interested in cutting a deal if you still have these. smile.gif
