I now have 5 holes in the LCD!! ohmy.gif I have a wuxga on the way. I will temporarily put it in this box but I will make a whole new box for it some day.

That will leave the old box free for the 2000 watt HQI lamps I have laying around, no I'm not kidding. biggrin.gif I have three lamps and the ballast to run them, perhaps when it cools down some.

I moved the 10'x3' pool in front of the screen so we can all watch from the pool. wink.gif

I am planing a larger screen and a extra condenser lens for more brightness with the 15.4 LCD.

Thanks for taking the time to read the whole Plog. It was a lot of fun.

I like that shot. Sit in the pool, watch a show. How great is that !

One question... has to do with moths to a flame... do you get many sitting on your triplet during the show ?? ... maybe there are no moths in AZ...
Durachko
Nice AV! Real nice!!! biggrin.gif We've got so many freaking Gypsy Moths now it's sick. At least the trees are growing some leaves back now that they've changed into moths from caterpillars. Can't believe you watch outside during the day. Awesome!
Philw
Very cool AZ, or hot in your case. smile.gif
Looks like the kids have the right idea! biggrin.gif
arizonavideo
Not too many Moths after a few 113 deg days! Not to much of anything living really.

The thing has been a bug zapper in the wintertime. I never did put a bug screen on the inlet vent. I should do that some day, bugs are bad for your lamp.

My brother in law just got his Ben-Q DLP setup the other day so I went over for a look. It looks nice and bright but he need some real color adjustmens and their is a strange digtal hailo suring many of the bright oblects on the screen.

The Daylight 3 gain screen looks nice but the side seats have some drop off. I told him he would have that with the seating and screen size but....

The DLP does have almost no screen door so you could sit 5' in front of it if you wished to.
umesh kumar
friend as you said your brother in law had bought a DLP PJ.If you could manage then please take some identical pics from yours as well as BENQ PJ under similar conditions.I would be really thankful to you. What was your perception of that.

I just read your plog and all I can say is wow! That's amazing work, I'm so jealous of the pool + movie deal. That's going to be amazing with a wuxga; with 1080p that's going to look out of this world and you will have way less screen door (time to go for 250" lol). Awesome job, thanks for all of the info!
Fulcrum
AV,

It was 95 degrees F this weekend in Michigan, so seeing that pool made me want to go out and buy one! smile.gif

Cheers!

it's beautiful out now though!....cedar point was great..biggrin.gif

love the high power unit....and i thought my 575W projector was bright

You have no idea how much I want to see a 10.6 in that projector! I wonder how many lumens you could get with a 10.6 and 1,200 WATT LAMP!

The new LCD is a WUXGA 15.4" If I had a 10.4 I would stay at the 575 or even a 250 watt HQI lamp.

The smaller the LCD the more heat per inch so with a 10.6 you would need even more cooling.( I have 6 fans now.)

A will get to use a shorter fl condenser and I might even be able to run a 220mm rear fresnel with my condenser but the heat is real problem.

A do think I may gain 50 to 100 lumens to get me close to 550 or so. ohmy.gif

It's all those kid's with the 575 watts lamps and the 10.6's that keep me on my toes. laugh.gif

Well I'm going to call my PJ finished! I had the Kids pick out some paint and Jarod likes purple the best so they were set free to do the job.

This thread has gotten so long that no one will ever read all of of it anyhow. I never finished sleeving all the wires from the ballast box to the top box but I'm going to call this one done.

It will come back as a 15.4" WUXGA soon but I may start a new thread just to make it easy to read. I plan on making a new folded box for the 15.4 in the long run and using the old megawatt box for the 2000 watt HQI lamp. rolleyes.gif

I have been side tracked by cameras and video stuff lately and I ran into this site the other day.

http://tochka.jp/pikapika/2006/06/report_p...n_kitijoji.html

They just use long exposure times and paint with a light pen.

And they found new super small HD camcorder/camera soon to be out. I bought the Sanyo CG65 and it is OK but it's a toy next to this one.

The kids look like they were having fun. smile.gif

Naw. Dino. Barney never was, nor ever will be that bright.

Some thing is wrong here Two kids that age paintbrushes in hand, PJ painted and not one drop of paint on them???????

If I remember right I got 2 pickets painted at their age before getting into a paint fight with my brother before the paint thinner bath and a good hosing with the outside spigot

This has been one of the most interesting and informitive plogs for me and it is sorta sad to see it done. May the heat of the AZ sun be gentle to you and your family.

Hello Im new to all of this but I thought this might come in handy for cooling, uv and ir protection Im a lighting designer at a concert nightclub and we use gels for our conventional lighting and there are gels that reduce all of these and 100% transmission rate there are also ones to change color temp and the price averages around $10 a 50 x 61 cm sheet heres a link http://www.rosco.com/us/filters/roscolux.asp the cooling uv and ir ones are the last 3 gels
weldonjb
Hey AZ!

I was thinking about that sunburn your LCD keeps getting. What if you put a counterbalance lens cover on the top of the pj? When it gets tilted up (red), the shade would come down, covering the triplet. It could also have a small strap to hold it in place for when you need to tilt it up all the way.

Well thank you vary much for the kind words.

I did have a bucket full of soapy watter and a towel when painting. The kids 4 and 6 did fine but I was right behind them smoothing out runs and drips. They still take pride in their painting job. These days it's important to have the kids learn by doing with real objects.

For a dad this is almost as good as it gets, I'm a lucky man. smile.gif

yellaasian; I know there are UV gels but I'm not sure I need one. I think the LCD should block most of it. In some of the older examination of the many layers of the LCD one was a UV block.

weldonjb; I have the stock lens cap from the OHP that the lens came from but I just never mounted it. I don't really like the stock metal lens cap and may just make a black bag with elastic sewn into it.

It is almost funny how hard I tried not to let the sun get the LCD and yet it happened again and again. I would but a large piece of vinyl on it at night and a storm would blow in later and just flip a little of the lens so the sun would get it again. It will make a good test LCD for the BIG one.

This Barny thing is getting a little out of hand, huh.gif I asked the 4 year old if the PJ looked like barny and the said "no Barny has green on the belly" so there is no resemblance to the purple dino. tongue.gif

You know Barny is just about the right shape for a vertical build? Really. wink.gif

But would I still have the uncontrollable urge to shoot the PJ after an hour?
zeltron
The LCD panel stop more 90% of visible light but UV also.

This one is caused by polarizer, their transmission is between 30% and 40% (until 45% for the best, in general, they haven't adhesive layer).

In a single pass under 400 nanometers (UV wavelengh), the transmission decrease, so Polarizer stop more UV than visible light smile.gif

it is the same principle of operation as that of the sunglasses

And in other news today, AZ residents were shocked as Winnie the Pooh assaulted Barney the dinosaur with a shotgun. Witneses report that the teddy bear, who has been known for a while to be toting the shotgun, suddenly started screaming "I can't take it anymore" and fired several point-blank rounds at the beloved dinosaur.

"Elmo has always worried about a 'bear of little brain' going about armed" says media icon Elmo from his Sesame Street home, while Oscar the Grouch has been overheard saying the "I'd have shot [Barney] too. He can't tell me to love him."

Barney is currently listed in critical condition at the Mercy Hospital for theme characters.
weldonjb
After being released on his own recognizance, but under tree arrest, Oprah Winfrey spoke with Winnie from his home in the Hundred Acre Wood subdivision.

Oprah: Do you remember picking up the shotgun, or going to the closet to get it?

Winnie the Pooh: Um, dum de dum, no, not especially. I just remember being scared.

O: Reports had said that Barney made you roleplay with him? And that he made you wear these shoes?
(Oprah shows the audience small pink ballet slippers)

W: Yes, he would make me wear those and play Baby-bop for him. Then he would do unnatural things to me.

O: Did you ever tell him no, that you did not want to do those things?

W: I did that last time, but then he sang, "I love you, you love me, let's push your stuffing up an.." Well, you understand.

O: And was it then that you went to get the shotgun?

W: I don't remember getting it, really. I just remember wanting him to listen to me. And then I heard that awful sound. BOOM!

O: The boom being the sound of the shotgun.

W: I thought Christopher Robin had a rule that it would never be kept loaded.

O: Did you tell Christopher Robin? I remember reports that he came in and saw the purple everywhere.

W: No, I think he was just at the door. I packed up some things and took Christopher Robin, Rabbit and Tigger with me, and we went for a ride. Next thing I remember, we were almost to Hogwarts, and it was dark, so we looked for a place with an indoor ball pit for Tigger to play in.

(presented for those who saw the Mary Winkler interview on Oprah)

Thanks weldonjb for your understating of the need of an armed Pooh, someone had to put that purple perv in it's place!

I took my avatar from a movie clip when Pooh meets Tiggar for the first time, Pooh hears a noise outside and does what every American would have done before all this PC stupidness, He grabs his cork gun from bedside and opens the door.

If they re-release the movie on DVD I would not be surprised if they air brush out the gun.

this whole PC thing started with Janet Jacksons wardrobe malfunction. movies by the pool how cool is that.

How much lm/W is the lamp?

110,000 lumen/1200 watts=91 Lm/W

It looks like the 575 is 85 Lm/w so perhaps mt lamp is eco friendly? laugh.gif

It's "bring your thread back from the dead" days.

I fixed the hot spot in the middle problem by moding the reflector.

See page 11.

http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?s...st&p=174755

The final black spot was about twice as large.

Just reminded me of your lux numbers again AV. Stellar work in pushing the limits of your ballast and lamp. post-418-1138467278.gif

Long time between post.

I ran int a new LCD being made by Samsung that look vary promising. They call it a C-PVA panel.

A few attention grabbers from the review is

"This LCD panel does not have dark lines at the junction points of the neighboring domains, which increases the maximum transparency and efficiency of the LCD panel. "

And

"The mentioned papers prove that the efficiency of CP panels is about one and a half that of LP panels"

If I understand this correctly a PJ using this LCD would be 50% brighter. They also say the color is slightly better in two of the colors and the contrast is a true 3000 to 1

The review can be found at Xbit labs here.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/monitors/...2080-f2380.html

The only real problem I see is no smaller panels just a 20" and a 23".

If they are more transparent then they will be a better choice for low power usage laptops and netbooks which means some smaller panels may be on the way.

I may just try the 20" if it will fit my PJ box. I will lose a little edge focus but if the colors and contrast is slightly better and it is brighter I would be happy.

I still have a new in box WUXGA panel and controller that I might sell if I go with the 20" so If your looking for one let me know.

SIMUL8R
Interesting AV, the panel uses a circular polarizer than the normal linear type. 20" is a bit large though, I'll be watching your thread to see what your planning with interest.
