My review of the Centerstage CS-1. (all testing done on 17" CRT, and 15" LL PJ) with the older firmware(2.0), haven't updated yet.
Looks/Style: Well, it looks like the one
here, other than mine has a green/black face, not aluminum. It is a good sized unit, about the size of a home-audio receiver.
Connections: Input 2 S-video, 2 composite, 2 interlaced component, 1 progressive component, DVI, VGA pass-through.
Output: Has DVI, VGA/Composite
Quality- Setup: Fairly easy to setup, and you cant get stuck in the wrong resolution, because you can set it with the front panel controls. The resolutions on input and output are a-plenty, and you can set sync on green, aspect(both in and out), color standard(i.e.-NTSC)
Picture Quality- Composite(Yellow Plug) - Not so good... No interlacing at all, no scan lines, so thats good, but somewhat blurry, and also some scan line "jumping" in a static picture with complex patterns, hard to explain.
- Svideo - Quite good, a TAD blurry @ 120", but very smooth, with little to no interlacing artifacts at all, MUCH better than the N6.
- Interlaced Component (Red Green Blue) - VERY good quality, ALMOST as good as progressive component. Very sharp, no interlacing/scanlines.
- Progressive Component(480p ONLY) (Red Green Blue) - Excellent quality @ 480p.MUCH better than the N6 in my opinion. Very crisp, almost FFDshow-ish in my opinion.
- HD progressive Component(720p/1080i) Does NOT scale, it passed through untouched, thus does not work on my monitor.
I need to tweak it more, and I will take some pics soon. My initial impression is very good of this unit though, as Sat/Cable look quite good.
