Can't wait to get it. Will keep you all posted on my results with the new PSone Lcd Screen.

Hey all !!
I am shipping back my broken PSone lcd screen, and will be getting an Official Sony screen. I found one for $42.00 including shipping up to Canada. I will keep you all posted on my progress. I will be building a website as well, explaining all the steps to make the projector. I will be using the LumenLab design, but shrinking it down a couple sizes
I would also like to know how to make the lcd have RGB inputs. If anyone knows how to make the screen accept RGB could you please tell me. Or just tell me the links of where you found it on.
Thanks,
Will surely keep you posted.

Hey joe, the top link didnt let me go through. Any other link that you can show me? isnt there a way to mod the screen so that it can accept RGB directly? I know how to mod it through VGA, but i dont need it to be hooked up through the computer.
Any thoughts?

What do you think the reso would be if i did the VGA mod on it? Something a little more higher then what brain said??
Give me what you think
Sorry Scott,
I might have got it wrong
If so I apologise in advance
It was just that when I took a look at your site and read in relation to projector plans,
Quote: "They are the ones people are trying to sell on ebay, but I got them for free. So since I did I will share them with everyone." Endquote
I started to think the $19.99US I paid, and a 1000 or more other Lumenlab members paid, would be a waste of time.
Obviously not your intention
The more exposure an excellent DIY Project like this gets is a good thing.
Sorry Ian

Thanks Ian,
My plan wasnt to give the Lumenlab plans away for free. I just want to get the name out there more. Get some more people interested in doing these type of projects
Back to the Lcd screen. Help me

Is there a way to raise the reso on it?

The resolution is a factor of the actual liquid crystal 'dots' on the screen, there is no way to make the resolution higher.

So it is just in the micro processors, which takes the data and produces an image on screen? So then i wont be able to "upgrade" the reso? What if I used RGB input.
hhmmmmmm....... all my questions

An LCD screen's maximum resolution is NOT DEPENDANT ON THE INPUT DEVICE. It does not matter if you are using RCA, RGB, or VGA inputs. Your resolution will depend on the NUMBER OF PIXELS in the screen. On a 5" PS2/PSOne screen it is going to be VERY low. Probably in the 200 x 150 range.
You can go LOWER than the maximum resolution of an LCD screen, but not vice versa. You can take a 1024x768 LCD monitor and run it at 800x600, but you cannot take a monitor with 800 pixels by 600 pixels and display an image that is built for 1024x768. Some of the image would simply be cut off...
In short, your projector will be VERY low quality. For more info, look up the liliput. This is basically a tiny PC screen with a very high resolution for its size. Commercial projectors use a VERY sharp, VERY small LCD (hence the cost). If you want a very small LCD that has a high number of pixels, be ready to pay upwards of $700.

Ok thanks for all the info Sh0ck3d, glad you could explain it all to me. And very clearly as well. Well do you think it would be a good first projector for me? I am only 16 and dont have a lot of money to spend on expensive lcds.

I suppose you could try one of the eBay kits. They are basically a simple lens that you attach to a small 13" TV set and use the light from the screen to project onto the wall. They are low quality and not very bright at all. You can look for the MSN Projector forums and they have more information about this type of projector. MY suggestion: Get a job to pay for a nice projector !
Seriously though I have been working (for $$ for toys) since I was 15!

except for one thing, the psone is built as a higher res screen but used and wired as low res which is the reason you can mod it for higher res.

But it is still very low res compared to what is available otherwise.
The psone screen does make an OK, projector, I have put one together myself, but leaves much to be desired. I am sure you will not be completely happy with your results and go on to build a bigger and better one, like I am now.
It is a very good first project to get your feet wet, just make sure to either get cheap components for your lighting, that you don't care if you don't use again, or get decent components, that you can use in your next projector.
Good luck with it.
Any there is a very nice design in here, that you should check out that used a psone screen, but I think it requires the membership, which is a well spent $20, for all the great info that you get from members here, at the very least.
