OK I have my bowl, (thanks lamps), from reading the info in the reflector link brainchild said the bowl flattens at the top about 3/8 inch. With that said sould I position the center of my lamp 3/8 inch below the outside edge of the bowl???

More than that. Cut about an inch out for the lamp. I believe the reflector works a little better with the lamp slightly ahead of the focus.
