Hey, I'm a big boy. I shoulda' known.

I've been battling mice for over 20 years. Lawn mowers, snowmobiles, motorcycles, boat, cars, etc. Dang little buggers'll get just about anywhere ya don't want 'em.

Fully planned (and had implicit permission from THE BOSS) to put some dadoes in my enclosure panels last night.

No such luck. Spent over 3 hours tearing apart and cleaning my hot tub surround and still have hours to go. I'll post a link to a gallery of pictures for y'all to enjoy. What a mess it is! Not to mention it's not the "quality construction" they claim. Voids in the insulation out the wazoo. You'd guess that'd saved the mice the trouble of chewing in their own little hidey-holes. Nah! They did anyway.

While I was working on it my wife and son were in the dang thing.

Oh well . . .

So, in closing, if you EVER get a hot tub inspect it damn carefully for ways for mice to get in.

Get a good mouser.

... I did just what you are doing now... oh yea, I fixed it so no mouse will ever get into this... well winter before last it was a couple of weeks without using the hot tub... I go out one night... hot tub is frozen solid... damn mouse had chewed his was through the wiring harness cutting off the heater... not funny. I'm starting to think that when I closed up the hot tub I actually enclosed the mouse in there... he must have had a pile of acorns to keep him alive... The only way to keep a mouse out of a hot tub is to be sure it's cast out of one solid piece of fibreglass and have an external motor/heater unit !

Yep, every extra possession means more upkeep and responsibility.

We've got several cats running around (neighbor cats) but they can't seem to keep up.

I had traps inside the hot tub even though it was "mouse proof" but they never caught anything for months and I hadn't checked them all summer.

Ah well . . . this, too, shall pass. (Like a freaking kidney stone!!!)

Just be glad they werent in the pipes...Then you would have had to make soup to get them out....

saw you were playing Halo a few posts back, wait til you play on the big screen! I was racing in project gotham the other night, felt like I was right there in the action. I get a lot of field mice here too, I live trap em and give them a ride a few miles down the road and release them. seems to work for me. I cant see killing them for finding food and shelter. these live traps work really well and once the family is relocated they seem to be gone for a while. I know I will never be rid of them but thats the trade off for being out in the middle of nowhere.

I agree with you TES . . . to a point. It's MY fault for not insuring rodent exclusion from my tub. I pulled over a dozen mousey corpses from that unit already. I leave 'em alone whenever I can; however, since I respect THEIR space they've gotta respect MINE.

I just got the key to stopping the flood and Cortana is back with me. I quickly learned to hate the Monitor. Nutty little orb. Great game.

Of course if you have a Mother In-Law who lives close, you could just drop them off in her yard / place. She might like to have one or two!

any progress on your PJ? I was just watching a history channel show on rats, very smart and resorceful creatures. its starting to get chilly here so I expect to see the field mice trying to move in here for the winter. time to dust off the live traps.

Progress? Weeelllll . . . my basement is pretty clean for the first time in over a year. I'm ready to put some dados into my enclosure panels but free time is scarce. I'm just waiting for my chance.
