Now I know how you got yer name. wink.gif

Building with 3/4" plywood. 5 to 10 pounds each? I'm thinking one on each of two opposing sides for two panels total. Provide access to HTPC and main workings of projector.

Floor.

Nope, don't need access. I want to be able to pull 'em and get to the guts for tweaking, maintenance, etc.

The rest of the carcass will be structurally self-supporting.

You thinkin' "Dzus"? smile.gif

No Dzus.

From your earlier picture.
A = horizontal panel
B = vertical panel

1. Cut B about an 1/8" shorter but don't cut all the way through on the right so
you end up with a small hidden recess. Then use velcro on A and B within the recess.

2. Cut a length of steel angle iron. Attach to B but leave a small gap on the side
toward A and use a strip magnet.

But you'll need some sort of handle or method of pulling the panel off.

Also, perhaps some plastic fasteners used for speaker grills.

I figured I wasn't specific enough! laugh.gif I have right angle butt joints like this:

Fastener to go where the arrow points.

Thanks for the reply though! smile.gif

Yep... that would still work with pronged tees .... you hammer them into the end panel and bolt through the side panel.

Never seen 'em used that way. huh.gif Interesting idea but I'd be afraid to use them in that configuration.

Nice ideas paladin! I'll have to think about them a bit. Very innovative and out-of-the-box thinking. smile.gif

That's good too! And I've seen bolts with wide and shallow 1/16" heads used on furniture - allen wrench drive.
Durachko
As far as the T-nuts (or blind nuts) used in the manner suggested by conker one would be relying on friction holding the nut in place. That's what bothers me about that. Of course, it could be supplemented with adhesive or some other mechanical fastener through the flange.

It's still a very interesting idea.

Also, it would entail counterboring a recess for the nut flange on the edge of a large panel. Another minor annoyance/complication.

I'm really liking Remdaddy's suggestion for right now but I really appreciate the ideas being brought up here.
MarcoPolo
If these panels are non-structural, try using light weight panels.
I plan on making light stressed skin panels by gluing thin aluminum flashing to both sided of a styrofoam panel. So a sandwich of flashing / foam core / flashing.
conker
Not sure If they will be available Stateside but a popular fixing over here is also the camlock:

Click to view attachmentClick to view attachment

They are a bit fiddly as you have to drill a very precise hole for the cam itself making sure it's in allignment with the dowel in the end of the panel, I've made a small jig to allow for cutting in of these.

A very tight and invisible joint that is easily opened.. albeit from the inside, so not suitable for all the panels.

Have you thought about hinging any of the panels round the box and only having fastenings on one side ?
TESCORP
Heres my thought, do the keyhole cut and use screws with a pan head. the screws will go into the end panel and the side panels will have the keyhole slots, you will see NO screws. the panels will drop on and lock in with gravity. when you want to go in for tweaking just lift the panel up and away. NO tools needed! you will need to be very precise with this method. everything will have to line up perfect. I think it will be very clean and neat. you will easily be able to remove these panels hundreds of times before you wear down the wooden slots. what do you think?

Yep. It's called a twist,I think and it's very easy to use. You can hammer it in and with the use of a special tool that fits snugly into the twist's head you can easily remove it again. I call the tool a twist driver. If you want to get real fancy you can even use the twist driver to twist the twist in.
Isn't modern technology amazing.

Wow! You Ausies got us on that one. I bet with a tapered point like that they practically start themselves... wink.gif
If I had access to this technology I might do something like this...

You could just ride the top piece on a shelf held in from the inside so nobody could see it. I think the Aussies call it "Twisting in Stealth Mode"....
Im so jealous you guys have these... tongue.gif

But if you twist too much you end up with a naked version like this.

Once they get like that they’re screwed, may as well toss them in the bin.
Most things that are damage can be recycled for other uses but I can’t see any other purpose for a twist with no twist. smile.gif

Yep, dam clover us ozzys. Shhh I don’t think I should be telling ya this but you know that sticky stuff that leaks from trees? You can use it to stick two pieces of wood together and not need twists at all, but you didn’t get that from me. wink.gif unsure.gif

Speaking of thongs, where is D tonight or is it morning.
I can’t seem to immediately relate a thong to a piece of clothing, all be it a very tiny piece of clothing. What I see in my mind every time thong is mentioned is foot apparel

Well this conversation is obviously leading to a thong made out of duct tape. And I can tell you from experience, they are not comfortable.

Probably out playing "Durachko of the Jungle", viciously slashing his way past bears, snakes, and nagging wives to get some quality shop time in... laugh.gif

I think the nicest thing that could happen to him right now would be to get sprayed by a skunk so his family and all the neighborhood animals would just leave him alone...

THEN! he could get some shoptime in... wink.gif

Naaaa....I think he's trying out the duct-tape thong idea. Hey D! Before you do that, be sure and shower real good first, making sure you are very VERY clean AND dry! Only then do you get the best "effect". In fact, the ladies really like it if you do the Simba impersonation by wrapping....well....you get the picture! When doing the thong in the back, be sure to really smush it up in there good, getting the best impression possible.

Just think...when he takes it off, there won't be a sole asleep for miles!!!
