Hello, I have 3 psone screens, so turning one into a projector seemed pretty cool.
I have 5" screen and 11"x8" freznels, so I'm trying to build the box to the freznel's size.
I have a page magnifier from a rip off ebay auction for a projector that measures roughly 13" (330mm) focal length. and a Staples page magnifier that measures roughly 15" (380mm) focal length.
And I bought the Lumelab 1002 S15 projection lens. (320mm) focal length.
I'm trying to make a test box, I don't have a light source.
Does anyone have a recomendation on a source I can use to test my measurements?
I'm pretty much affraid to go any further without getting some sort of confirmation
it's going to work for me.
If I get a 400w light setup and I don't get results, I'd assume I need new freznels, etc.
I'm not sure how much further money I want to put into this.
My second concern is the 400w bulbs. I don't like fire, I'm really not sure I want to take any risks in
that department. I'd be willing to go with a screen that can only be seen in a very dark room if it
gives my less likely risk of burning down the house.

If you want a free light source to check your focal lengths go outside on a sunny day. The height off the ground where you get the smallest point of light is the fl. otherwise I'd say go with the 400 LL light kit then if you get it all together and you decide the resolution isn't sufficient (IIRC the PSone 5" screen is 320 x 240) then you already have the makings for a 15"er just make sure you keep some good airflow in the box, lots of people use a temp sensor to shut down the pj if it gets too hot, and if you're still really concerned about a fire keep a smoke alarm and fire extinguisher on hand. I can say I'm pleased with my 15" and it was worth the time and money put into it. You'll want a rear fresnel with a shorter focal though or it will be really dim. I remember one guy from Mexico used multiple page magnifiers behind the screen to adjust the fl. in an unsplit desigh. Above all else take your time ask questions measure twice cut once and get'r done.
Good Luck!

Being a fire technition for a day job, id say a halon extinguisher or a halotron. There spendy. but wont break yer lcd or any of your electrical..

Just a note of caution, if your going to test the focal point of the fresnels outside don't stick your hand on the focal point....I burned my hand doing that...
