I found this fresnel on eBay Big
O.O I'm sorry if this is dumb but what if someone made a huge projector with like a 42" LCD screen! You would have to get custom made parts for pretty much every item you would regularly use, and it would probably cost like 10k... ph34r.gif But think how sweet it would be to have this huge ass box! I would plant it outside my house and project it onto the side of my house!
I'm probably going to get flamed for this sad.gif but I think its a good idea.

The price is only about 70$ including shipping, might be fun to burn holes in stuff. I once took a lens I bought from 3dlens.com a while ago and took it outside in the middle of summer, then put my hand under it right at the focal point and it scorched my skin, I had a bubbling skin potch on my hand for a week. I was only 13 at the time so it sounded like a good idea.

I went to the actual website of the guys who were selling them and I found a Digital Light Meter for 58$ not sure if its a good deal or not blink.gif

It has 4:3 aspect ratio. Could be used to make 51 inch rear projection screen.

I would be very doubtful of the quality of that thing if that's all they are charging for it.

They also sell some other fresnel lenses for around 150$ on the website. The site isnt bad for sourcing parts for your projector by the way...smile.gif

Burning holes in trees - not that impressive.

Burning holes in asphalt, which something this big is capable of, is.

I was looking at that exact pic a week or so ago. Was going to post it, but you beat me too it.

Think what it'd do to ants?
Mikau
I heard it would also burn alluminum cans.

It will do to ants what a regular magnifiying glass would - just a lot faster.

Hey man, screw all this talk of burning stuff: set up a stirling engine to run off it!

After the projector lens comes in January I may try that. I really like the idea also of turning an old 12' satalite dish into a cooker with shiney chrome PVC sheeting. I think I could rig it to "track" the sun and keep around 5 hours of cook time. Maybe I would run a cooling-heating cycle system and turn it into a power source to run a boiler-turbine-generator. 8 years of naval engineering put to useless good. Im sure it would pull more power from the sun than a roof full of solar panels.

Thats true, except you would have to put the fresnel lens on a chair and wheel it around to keep the cat at its focal point. Wow that'd be cool, a chair where you can control where the focal point is aimed, and adjust it accordingly. Put a motor on the chair and you have yourself a weapon of mass destruction.
