Well not too many people replied to my PLOG but I thought I'd show some initial results from my 17" PJ with the old pro lens. I fried my first monitor and my digital camera was broken for a long time, however I now have a new monitor and some initial results. I can't wait to see how good this will be with the new lens!

Here's the big box.

Looks nice. What is the difference between the old and new lenses. And, what is the flaw?

Take a close look at that first Star Wars shot, the large version.

The edges of the screen are blurry, the old pro lens didn't tend to focus evenly on the picture.

Also, the old pro lens is a varifocal, so you can (Or should have been able to) adjust the focus by changing the focal length of the lens, instead of having to physically move it. The new pro lens does not have the varifocal feature, but this is necessary in order to obtain the field of focus needed for a large panel.

What are people going to do with the bad lenses after they are replaced. The reason I ask is that given my projector placement (which is non-negotiable, unfortunately) I will never use the entire width of the screen to show movies - even with the pro-lenses. Therefore, I am wondering if the old varifocal lens might just work for me.

some have pondered the better use of the old lens on a 15" screen, since it's smaller. most bought the pro for 17" or above
Brian tested his sample, which was bad, on a 15" and didn't see the errors until it was tested on a larger panel, IIRC..... dry.gif
some will sell them for this reason, i'm sure!!

Yeah, I was planning to buy an old pro lens off of someone for use with a smaller panel. I might still...

Let the bidding on the old pro lens begin...

Please explain me, this "PRO" stands for "PROjection" lens, nothing more? Just to make sure smile.gif

It is the 'Pro' lens because it is much higher quality lens than the 'standard' projection lens. It is a huge lens with 100mm diameter of clear glass, 500mm focal length, coated optics and a wide field for use with large LCD panels. It is a custom designed lens made in small quantities for this community alone.
