Hi,
This might be a very basic question, but I have been searching and sifting through LCD's on ebay, and I have found some 15" that say 1080i, 720p, 480i/p, and am a little confused at this considering the maxe resolution of a 15" currently is 1024-768.

They say you need an HDTV reciever for the Hi-def to work, so would something like an N6, or Possibly Avermedia TVBox allow me to play my Xbox 360 in 1080i or 720p? (Dont actually have an Xbox 360, but am getting one smile.gif )

If thats so I assume the 1080i would be scaled down, and is it possible to take a regular LCD monitor such as this one LCD Monitor It has no HDTV capabilities, but would buying an N6 make the 360 play in 1080i?

Thanks,
Trevor

A 1024 x 768 lcd doesn't really display 1080i. It displays a scaled down 1080i. To properly display 1080i you need a screen with a pixel resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Instead of the N6 why not get the XBOX 360 VGA HD AV Cable. You would not be able to hook up other sources but my guess is the quality would be way better.

Alright I will buy one of those cables, and for my DVD player, TV input, etc...? N6, Avermedia Tvbox9, VGDZ3?

- A 17" monitor (1280x1024) can display 720p (1280x720) properly. You'd have to scale it down to to 1024x576 for a 15" monitor. You'd have to scale down 1080i for both (1900x1080). However, Most LCD's won't display either 720p or 1080i natively -- you'll need a tv box.

- Some LCD TV's can accept 720p and/or 1080i signals, but will often downrez the picture (see above)

- XBOX 360 VGA -- from what I understand, this will only work if your monitor can display at least a 1280x720 resolution image (17")

- N6 is the swiss army knife of converter boxes (480p, 720p, 1080i), but a lot of people seem unhappy with the quality

- The V-Digi Z3 will transcode 720p from component cable to VGA. It will NOT scale the picture (i.e. if you've got a 15" monitor that can only display 1024x768, you're out of luck)

- Most other TV boxes only deal in standard definition (480i, 480p)

... I really wish they'd just make a better version of the N6 smile.gif

Any reason not to use the Xbox 360 as your DVD player?

For 480P component (such as progressive scan DVD) use the Vdigi for best results. For composite, s-video, and TV use a TVbox9.

Thanks for the input guys, nice idea about the 360 being my DVD player, I will do that now! Damn shame that the N6 doesn't have good quality according to users. Anyone see this as good? TVBox

I think Brain did a review on the K-World. It got good overall reviews for regular TV. However, it does not have component or HDTV capabilities.

It is a good price, though. About 1/3rd the Avermedia TVBox9 or N5/6
