Im currently using a Avermedia TVbox 9, when connecting the dvd player to the tv box via VGA cables i am unable to adjust colour, brightness settings etc.

Is this problem present in the N6 or is it possible to adjust the contrast, colour etc on the N6 while receiving the video through vga?

Simple answer, No.

Adjustments can't be made on the N6 when running VGA cable.

That's pretty typical of most devices like that. The VGA connection is usually a "pass-through" connection, so there's no processing occurring in the scaler. It's usually assumed the VGA connection is going to be used for a PC, where the adjustments can be made in software.
