Well its Monday 12.30pm at work and my supplies have arrived..
and Im not happy...

.. I STILL HAVE 5 1/2 HOURS TO GO...ah crap, before I can get started.

All supplies arrived intacted , bulb seems ok. (wiping brow ,its was a long trip)

Had ya going didnt I?

Well have purchased digital thermometer $15
Various new tools.Antistatic strap

having a bit of trouble pulling cover off LCD though.

All I need to get now is Tempered glass (want to measure before buying.) but Otherwise all ready to go

Well so eager, I not going to start to big ,I will do just a standard design and mount it in the coffee table later. I just want to see it going.

Quick question the fuse box Im 240v want amperage fuse do I need ? 10amps?

thanks guys Watch this space. for smiles or frowns.
Vidman
well first pics of construction

I have taken front cover off LCD. a little difficult but got there in the end

Then converted small benchsaw into one with bigger top.
Stripped some pallet wood down to make fresnel frames .Pic hard to see, but strips have a 4 mil strip taken out of the middle

And last one frame made with lense in it.

next cutting enclosure out of plywood
Vidman
Righty oh, I have another ballast on its way. In the mean time I have changed the frames for the fresnels.

Stripped LCD and made a sled for the Lenses and LCD

The Phillips 150s6fb doesnt not have FFC problems , sweet.
Stripped it down to the glass , removed back light etc.
I used the metal frame it came with and cut the back metal also for the frame.
I cut a sheet of plywood into a U shape and slid the panel into it and used tiny pices of MDF to to hold it in and a tiny thin piece to hold up the LCD so the LCD doesnt squash the edge connectors.

the red tape was to make sure the cut metal frame doesnt cut the edge connectors( even though I sanded them.

I will be sealing the edges around the LCD and wood with Electrical tape to stop Light leeks.
Vidman
Well I inserted the circuit boards into the sled.
Took the sled inside and hooked up the power lead.
( sorry about the blurry pic)

what it shows is the upside down and back to front image of

"please check your vga connection" thats exactly what I wanted to see.
It stills works...

what a beautiful sight...

now i intend to attach the fresnels via threaded rods for adjustment. Sorry cant remember the member whos idea that was.
Vidman
Well so I have slimed down the fresnel frames, too wide wouldnt get the correct gap (to wide).

I drilled holes though frames and sled for threaded rods , I will be using 4 of them.

I used glad wrap to protect lenses, fantastic tip I picked up.

Now the string... I made my box not high enough. The gap at the bottom of the fresnel (for air ) dictated the height.
Once I put themin frames to stop warping the was only just enough gap at the bottom and nearly flush at the top, I have run out of money for any extra bits I'll have to make do with this one for the time being.

So drawing a cross on the end and front panels will not be in the centre of the lcd and fresnels. Thats OK the width of the box is corret to fit the light even with the new measurement.
Vidman
After inserting the other rods .I was so eager to see an image
I folded a box over the top and front very roughly spaced the light ( bedside 100w lamp)
and cut a hole in the cardboard , after seeing where the light hit the card board.

I got a general idea of a result. It was a 4:3 image ont hte wall (not posting as absolute bad image)
i was only after rough image size , I thick it was around 60 inchs or so , only a few feet away from wall.

Not too impressed yet, be remember not done properly.
Vidman
Well its 11pm christmas eve .

Heres a pic of someting else I built for my kids 2 years ago mostly out of pallet wood.

Its eight metres across from steps to the end of the climbing frames ( which cost $5 from my sons kindy)

Its has a black board wall inside, lined the roof with builders paper for water proofing.Added 2 steering wheels .

Sleeps an adult well .

Total project cost $300 mostley nails and bolts for the frame and tanalised wood for the legs and frame.
and rot proofed the pallet wood. Going for another level next year.
Vidman
And the new ballast arrived today , thanks LL team..Merry christmas to you.
Vidman
Well after a fantastic Christmas, I inserted the other rods and mounted both fresnels. Before that I tested the focal length of the lenses, to my wife dismay I burned a hole on the shed door. So I did it with paper, in front of the kids, they were fasinated I created fire without matchs.

Now the frsnel closer to the screen is slightly of centre, will this really matter. The front fresnel is spot on.

Anyone got results of a slightly miss aligned lense?

Happy New Year and the likes.

Before you stripped your Philips LCD did you test some inputs on it? I have a Philips 15PF7835/37 and the picture sucks, just looking to know if your panel looks nice.
Vidman
Monitor looks fantastic

Played games and watched movies on it first.
Vidman
Well what have I done.

Made the assembly for the triplet, with handles to adjust focus ( will change for next build)

Wired lcd , fan and ballast .Inserted tempered glass

Well after hooking it up the ballast isnt working. The fan and LCD are.

Previously I hook a house lamp implace of the ballast and that worked.

Taking another deep breathe .
I cant have that much bad luck 2 dead ballasts. I* will have to get it tested to see.

removed garbage

Painted box and alumimum sheets replace 8cm fan with ball bearing 12cm , noisey. $13 but will find silent one
later.

Placed bulb and stuff.

Next put everything back in and do the lid then twinking .so close.
Vidman
Well I have watched several flicks so are with no overheating, awesome. Heres another pic of spongebob to show these can get as big as my mockup pic (darth vader) , this is with A/G still on. really awesome

Vidman
First thanks to all the advice on A/G removal and inspiration.Fantastic

OK I have just finished putting LCD back into the sled.
I did the water soak method . Did it at 1.15pm and took it off at 3.30pm. Yes only 2 hours, fantastic.

check out post 4 here for a shot of the back that doesnt have A/G and the front with A/g on.

Heres it peeled off , I used a craft knife to lift corner, I can see how people can get the polarizer as well mine were the same size, but I felt a little lip between them. whoo that was close.

it is nice and very shiny , but I had a little tiny mark so I rubbed it, it was the adhesive rubbed it off with a bit of water, the surface looked the same with or without the glue, if it wasnt for the spot I would have not noticed.

Heres a shot of the A/G afterwards.

now tonight Im going to watch and adjust using fddshow, cant make fddshow work on dvd mode at the moment with zoomplayer. I will post way cool shots later.

I havent finished yet still working on a one piece lid, but it can still be use properly.

thanks guys see ya soon..
Vidman
