Hi All,

I just want to make sure this is right. I found and read about three threads on this, but they were all the round cap (mine is oval shaped) and they were all with ballasts that had all white wires (mine are colored). If you guys could confirm my thinking here, I'd feel much better before I plug anything in!

BTW, I borrowed your figure from the manual Brain. Hope this is ok! We're in the protected board of the forum. biggrin.gif

1.) Of the four wires marked with various voltage ranges, I'm picking the 120V. This is illustrated by the 120V marking in the figure to the right of the ballast. The others will be capped ends. Is this right?

2.) I have two yellows coming from the ballast marked COM. Should these be as in the figure? Can they be swapped? Are they different? Tied together?

3.) I have a red coming from the ballast marked CAP. I have a spare red jumper in the kit and I'm running this from the cap to the lamp. Is this correct?

4.) Lastly, I'm adding ground wires to the frames of the ballast and the mogul off to gound. Is this correct? Is it necessary?

See figure bellow:

TIA,
Mark

EDITED: NOTE!! This diagram is wrong. It is corrected in the next diagram.

Both are used one hooks to the side wire from the lamp socket the other hooks to the wire coming from the wall the big prong.

Yes red from ballast to cap, other red from ballast to center pin of socket.

Ground the ballast, mogul DOES NOT need a ground.

Make sure the power from the wall has the hot wire small prong going to the 120volt wire of the ballast.

Cool!

Thanks David!

Thanks to David I was able to make up a revision to this diagram... hopefully correct and final.

nevermind you changed the pic... lol

Nice drawing/modification RCL...hopefully this will be made as everyone is calling it "sticky" or at least put in the manual. I think this makes like the 4th thread on ballast wiring and I am still skeptical about firing mine up blink.gif The only question that I have is if the COM wires are tied together meaning it doesn't matter which one goes where?
RCL
joe2000chevy,

biggrin.gif The moment I loaded the pic and saw it, I thought... "That ain't right." I went back and fixed it.
You have a quick eye!

ScOrPiOn,
Yea, I think I read them all... numberous times, thinking I was missing something and it had to be there. I knew I wasn't going to hook it up until I found out. dry.gif

All,
I'm still hoping to get as many reviews on this as is reasonable. Not looking for glory. Not looking for mods. Just looking to make sure it's right and leaves no questions.

Thanks,
Mark

ScOrPiOn,

I believe you could tie them together, or alternate their connections as shown in the figure. Seems like common is common is common. dry.gif

Well,

This diagram is certainly right. It's all jumpered together and it works.

The box (or part of a box) is back about 12-13 feet from the white wall in the basement. Every light in the basement is on. I drew on a piece of glass with a magic marker and put it in, in place of the panel.

The screen is huge (as you can imagine being back 12 ft). And the brightness is great, even in a basement with five 60 watt lightbulbs and two flourescent 4' tubes burning.

Somehow my lamp got mounted about an inch to one side off center!?!? I thought I measured it right!? dry.gif

Truely amazing! biggrin.gif

Thanks Brain and Thanks to all who are helping!

Thanks guys!

I've been messing around with distances and having a ball!

hello,
I just got my ballast in and was wiring it up today.
One question...what gauge wire should i use for the rest of the job?.
ie: too the two switches and so on? also were would the ground wall prong goto?
And yes i have done a search but could not find this info...

Thanks,
lesko

what about the ignitor? dont see it in the diagram?

You can use the same guage wiring that the ballast comes with obviously ......

as for the ignitor, that diagram doesnt have one in the picture because its an M59 ballast, if you have an M135/M155 ballast then it will have an ignitor and it should be wired like this .....

this of course only reflects the ballat/lamp portion ....
