Have plans ever been produced for building a projector from these small screens? I just got my hands on one of those PSOne LCDs.

I am also curious about this.....is a pdf guide planned at all for small projectors. I am working on a larger one at the moment, but it would be awesome to have a small projector.
Thanks,
Eric

I'm working on one as we speak. It's going to be interesting since I'm so cheap.

Office Depot "fresnels" and an old OHP. I'm trying to figure out how to cram it all into a pc tower case but It's going to require 2 mirrors and I'm horrible at geometry. There's the plan for the 7" which I guess never got finished because I haven't seen any pics of it. You can go by that and just adjust for the different focal lenghths. I'm going vertical because of the pc case.

You should be able to make a small LCD projector by just scaling everything down from the bigger versions. All of the distances will be the same, lamp to Fresnel to LCD to Fresnel to triplet, the difference will be in the height and width. I’d suggest you build a small test version to actually see where everything fits and then add a mirror if you want to make it into a folded design and or add a pre-condenser as a lot of people from other forums have done. The basic principal of different sized diy projectors is the same.

I wish we could compile all the knowledge of the psone projectors and make some sort of guide because I am too retarded to go this without any help. Like a list of stuff to buy, size layout... That kind of stuff. It would be a good starting point for people like me and anyone else who does not want to start with the bigger more expensive model.

I agree, as I also need something nice in front of me. But I can play around also...

I'll try to keep a guide going for my psone. It's fitting pretty nice inside of an old pc tower case. But I'm using OHP light engine so this probably wouldn't work with a metal halide or hps setup.

That would be wodnerful! I am looking on the cheap with this projector (the better one will of course be based on a bigger projector).

Maybe while you are waiting for an answer in the other thread you could post a partial guide - so we could catch up and help.

I didn't really know where to place this image, so I thought I'd do it here. If this needs to be moved - or even deleted - fine by me. I just wanted to throw it out for discussion...
The following image is from the DIYAUDIO forum - and its a PSONE projector setup. I'd give the thread, but you must be a member to view all of the pictures. I just took this one b/c it shows the setup.

This is also from the DIYAUDIO site, however, this uses the 8" Hami:

So my question is this: Why do both setups have tunnels surrounding the area from the field fresnel to the lens?
Is there a benefit in this? Has it been tried here?
I looking briefly in this forum, but I couldn't find the answers I was looking for. Thank for looking!

I've updated my psone design in my 'second chance' plog. Maybe you guys can help me with my heating issues.

AC, thats a good question. Havent seen that before. maby it traps more light for the lcd.
hope we get some ansours from the LL gods.
id like to know.

id also like to know the dimensions of that box..
and what all is in there.
on the first pic.
You should contact the person that posted that pic and ask them a step by step product discription.
if they will give it to you.!

the Tower projector? is what your having problems with heat?
if so. id put a fan shooting out the top of it when its laying down in your pic..
id shoot a fan RIGHT abouve the light. might be ugly but
i think that is your best idea in that situation... or a fan pushing the heat accross the line of fire. to another fan shooting it out of the projector.
understand what im sayin?
or should i draw a pic?¿

Red Dog, I hear what you're saying. I'm working on isolating the lamp in an enclosure that closes up the entire bottom of the case and runs air from the front to back across the bulb. Just had to go snag some tempered glass first. I'll keep everybody posted in my 2nd chance plog. Don't want to keep spreading questions across 3 or 4 threads.

Well, I'll be building a PS1 projector. I don't really have "plans" per se, I was planning to more or less make it up as I went, depending on what materials are available when I build.
For the tunnel, since these are folded path projectors, and there doesn't seem to be any real light control for what gets past the panel, Id guess that these tunnels are there to prevent stray light from washing out the image. Doesn't seem like the most efficient way to do things to me, but it has it's merits.

I'm still working on mine. Had to order an FFC extension and now i'm trying to fit it all in the box. Will probably have to order an extra fan cuz' the 410W halogen is so freakin' hot! I posted some lcd sled shots in my plog. You should go ahead and start on your pj. Lay everything you have out on the table and start thinking about how to put it all together. Try not to make it more complicated than it really is. The size of the box is determined by the focal length of whatever fresnel and triplets you use. You've got to start somewhere. Unless mydiazclan pulls through with public versions of his psone pj there aren't going to be any clear cut step by step instructions other than the 15" guide which you can just scale down to the psone screen.

I am about 90% done with my new CNC Machine, and will start on a PSone design very soon, and cut the enclosure and parts on the CNC.
