Hi

I've hooked this monitor up to 2 PCs, one with an SIS card and the other with an Intel 82815 card and I get a "Not Optimum Mode......." message floating on screen.

1. I've checked the cable on another monitor and it works fine
2. I tried an Acer LCD on both PCs and no problems.
3. Installed the drivers that came with the monitor
4. Tried different resolutions and frequencies

I've had the monitor for about 2 months, it's been in and out my PJ during various stages of construction. It definately worked 100% after been stripped.

Could I have damaged it somehow that it doesn't receive a proper signal but still powers up and displays "Check cable" if the cable is unplugged?

Please tell me that it's ok sad.gif otherwise I'm throwing this whole PJ away having gone thru such a lot and now when it at the final stage the LCD is %#@!

I've Googled and this does seem to be a problem but no answers so far.

Really apprceciate any help.

jhardisty - I have the same monitor. Want me to pull my vga and check the message I see, or something else? Or have you solved this issue?
jhardisty
According to the manual, the monitor is workings fine because it shows the "Check cable" msg when there is no cable/signal and if it shows "Not Optimum Mode" you need to check your PC/VGA setup

What type of sync signal does the monitor take? Separate H/V or a Composite sync?
What type of sync signal does the video card support? Separate H/V or a Composite sync?

Nevermind, it takes both, and sync on green.

You say it definately worked 100% after you stripped it... How/what did you have it hooked up to at that point?

You tried 1024x768 @ 60Hz?

Had it hooked up to a laptop, which unfortunately isn't working right now.

Yes, double checked res on both PCs.

The minute it gets to the XP login screen it comes up with the message. Runs fine in Safe Mode. Other crt and lcds work fine on both PCs I'm using on the same res, same cable.

Well when the computer starts up and in safe mode the screen resolution is 640*480

So it still sounds to me like the resolution is to high in Windows when you're not in Safe Mode.

have you been using powerstrip by any chance ?

uninstall powerstrip if you have been using it.
also uninstall your video driver.

boot your computer to see if it will boot normally. if so, reinstall your video driver. if not, you can still run in safe mode only and need to think some more about what might be wrong.

cheers,

Definately not my res coz I've checked it numerous times and it's def 1024x768x60

Just got off the phone with our local Samsung repair centre. They've just started doing repairs on the LCD monitors (about 4 weeks) and already have 4 other 510Ns with the exact same problem. The tech isn't 100% sure why it's doing this because he's new to the LCD and has ordered replacement main boards in the meantime. Thank god they're quite cheap as they obviously won't honor my warranty :-)

He says it may even just need a firmaware upgrade but is waiting for a definite answer from their HO branch. Should have an answer next week.

Will keep everyone informed.

Just got word back from the service center, they confirmed that the mainboard will need to be replaced. Will try to get it done under warranty but I doubt it, otherwise only about $50 which isn't too bad
jhardisty
Picking up my main board today. Told tech thta I would install myself to avoid paying excessive hourly rates for nothing. He says that the other monitors are 100% after replacing mainboard.
