Hey,
I am very interested in building a pj. I am getting a list together of all the stuff that I need. I am not sure if I have all of the stuff so could you guys help me out with my list.
my materials:
Monitor - $160 -
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16824024009LL Light Kit - $159 -
https://secure.lumenlab.com/shop/group.php?id=4Standard Lens Kit - $64.98 -
https://secure.lumenlab.com/shop/group.php?id=2AC Adaptor - $9.99 -
https://secure.lumenlab.com/shop/group.php?id=12Cooling Fan - Still Thinking
Wood
Do I need anything else to build the pj?
Also which fan makes the least amount of noise, the evercool or the ball bearing fan?

1. Lexan glass or Tempered glass (to protect lcd and fresnels from melting and provide uv protection)
2. Air filter cloth (to cover fan hole and air slot on top of pj)
3. Reflector (ikea, linens & thngs had a srubby holder but its only used for the big ed28 bulbs)
4. Flat black paint & brush (to paint the front inside of your box)
5. Wood putty (to cover any holes from screws)
6. Paint or a stain (for the enclosure)
7. electric tape (to tape off the lcd)
8. weather sealant strip (so no light escapes through any cracks under the lid)
9. Hinges (if you want the lid to swing open for easy access)
Thats it im all out.

Can't tell you how many time I wanted to rush forward and start, only to be delayed by some frustrating issue....only to come up with a new/better idea in the meantime.
Use those delays and downtime to your advantage...and save your receipts from the hardware store!

I would suggest reading through as many PLOGs as it takes until you feel comfortable with their designs. Once you're familiar with the different designs, you'll know what components are needed and will feel confident to move forward.
Keep us posted on what parts and design you choose. I found it beneficial to make a list of possible parts and then list their specs and price. I used this list to ultimately decide on which part I needed.

i have decided to choose the lexan xl10 for the protection.
heres where i am getting it from:
http://store.ezdropsell.com/index.php?main...o&products_id=6this place also sells reflectors so i will probably buy the reflector from there also.
i think for my first projector i am just going to use the normal rectangular box shape for the enclosure. i will also have decided to get the evercool fan.
i have one more question about the wiring. should i buy the wiring kit from lumen lab or is it not needed?

ok, im just about ready to order the parts. I just have one question if you guys could help. I don't really have any expierence working with wiring things together. Would building a pj be a bad idea?
thanks

I'm not using the LL lights so I can't help out there. I'll be using a PC power supply for my cooling fans. If you want to use an ATX power supply i can show the pinouts you'll need to jumper to turn it on.

nm, i figured out how to do it using the ll adaptor. for noobs like me, if you have the ll adaptor, you have to cut the end of adaptor wire off and connect the wires to the red and black wires for the evercool.

hey i started building yesterday. i got the enclosure somewhat finished. just not sure on my setup of the frensals and the lcd. heres a pic.

do i have to make a frame for the 2 frensals and the lcd or can i just slide all of them into the slots i made?
Zete

The slots will be adequate, but I would suggest making a frame to keep them from warping in the heat. If you have the tools and the skill to make the frames, it's definately safer to go ahead and do that.

Coming along nicely HR, it's exciting when you know it's not long 'til you're gonna get to project your first images. I'm at a similar stage and can't wait, especially seeing some of the fantastic results on here. Keep us posted.

hey,
just recieved the ballast and the lamp in the mail. Heres a links to what i have:
http://1000bulbs.com/product.php?product=8702 - bulb
http://1000bulbs.com/product.php?product=801 - ballast
heres a pic

ok, my question is. There are many wires coming out of the ballast. I don't know which ones to connect to the mogul base. does anyone have any ideas?

Okay... With a multi-tap ballast, there will be several sets.
2 should be labelled "common" -- It should not matter which of these you use for which, but one will go to the "neutral" line on your A/C power, and one will go to the outside (white wire) part of the socket.
The other wires, there should be ones labelled for different voltages, 120, 208, 240, 277... Whatever. They'll be labelled with voltages. The one with the appropriate voltage rating goes to the "live" line on your A/C input. There will also be an output line (Spec sheet seems to say it might be labelled "CAP"). This is the one that goes to the capacitor, then the center pin (black wire) on the socket.
Usually these wires are colour coded. Usually there will also be a manual with the ballast telling you what connects where.

is the adaptor that is available in the lumen lab store able to work with this?
SupraGuy
Dec 3 2005, 02:19 AM
Adapter? You mean the wiring kit? Sure.
On closer examination of your picture, it looks like the capacitor is wired in already. The loose end of the capacitor is what goes to the black wire on the socket. The white wire on the socket goes to one of the "Common" wires at the ballast, so then it's just a matter of choosing the correct AC input wires.

You might recheck the connections on the panel.Mine does something similar if my input cable gets jostled.I just hope you didn't damage the flat cables. They are very fragile and almost impossible to repair.

That sound to me like your projector may be canted slightly. You might check the projectors alignment with the screen.Make sure it's on the same vertical/horizontal plane with the screen.Mine did the same thing and all I had to do was slide the backside of my projector over a little bit.Now mine is focused across the entire width of my screen. It's easier to focus if you display a off-white or beige screen rather than digital white. It's easier to see the screen door effect that way. It's also helpful to have someone you trust standing beside the screen giving you feedback.Especially if your PJ is too far away to see the screen door effect. That's how I got mine focused. The only other thing that could be the problem is your LCD mount may not be positioned properly allowing only half the panel to focus while the other half is too close or too far from the triplet.Hope this helps.
