Does anyone recognize it? Does anyone know anything about this lens? Where it would have come from? Focal Length? Focus? It's huge! 5.25" diameter, 6.5" long... it has an adjustment too.. I think it is a focal adjustment. If anyone has any information on it I'm interested in hearing about it.

You know I had the high bid on that lens for 4 days. And that was one crazy bidding war at the end. rolleyes.gif

It looks like a rear PJ lenes. It is easy to tell the FL. In any room with a light point the lens at the light and focus the rear of the lens on the wall when the image is sharp this is the aprox. rear FL. If it is a RPJ lens it will be about .5"

good luck hope for 18" FL

Hmmm.. so your 18" Buhl's don't look like this? I highly doubt it is a rear projection lens, look at the slit in the mount that is for adjusting focus. Besides, the owner says it has come of a huge overhead projector, but that doesn't really say much as to what the lens actually is. If it has a focal point of anything under 200 I will be severely depressed, otherwise it may have a long life with me. (Actually I will be upset if it is under 300mm)

I never realized it, but I thought this was bigger than the 135mm at DIY Proj., it's the same size. I wonder how it will fair in comparison, that thing is a third the diagonal of pmy panel, you would think it will focus clearly. Anyways, thanks for the reply, I was going to message you. I want to see a pic of your 18" FL.

I don't know why, but I always seem to be hoping for the best taking the different path looking for those "Holy Grail" of components that probably do not exist. I'm nuts. You should see the order I just cancelled at SurplusShed.. lol.. I had too many ideas.

My Buhl lens is 5.25"W x 6.25"L

If your Buhl lens came from a large overhead PJ that would be truly amazing. It should be the same diameter but shorter in overall length than my lens. The shorter length of the body means a larger FOV. Please do a quick FL test it should only take a minuet. The outside fl test that everyone does with the Fresnels would work and the inside test is so easy. Did you have to pay a lot?

I am currently trying to decide which arm to give and the best way to remove it. The powersaw would be quick, but it just seems awfully messy. sad.gif

Anyways, It's the same or very similiar! Mine is 6.5" long... I don't know, it's a real gamble. BTW, I am still interested in that lens if you don't use it. If mine is a different FL from yours I would like to have it, I preferably want matching triplets of different lengths. I just want to make sure you are aware of that. Thanks for posting the pic.

P.S. Judging by the smile on your sons face, it must be a good lens! wink.gif
