This thread is meant to document FAILED attempts at a/g removal so that others do not attempt using these methods with their own panel. Please do not use it as a discussion thread.

PANEL: CMV 520-D
METHOD: Paint Stripper
WHY FAILED: Stripper eats through the polarizer and attacks rear TAC
[EDIT]: 11-6-05 apparently andysharifi was SUCCESSFUL using stripper with a Westinghouse LCD (which is the same as a CMV). So the jury is still out as to weather stripper is effective/safe on these panels.

Tried the rag method and the stripper method on a samsung monitor, cant remember the model number right now but I will post it later.
Results:
The wet rag method was tried first, after 13 hours of soaking the A/G was not affected.
Next tried the paint stripper method. Tried to peel up the ag after a couple of hours and nothing would budge. It was getting late so i left the stripper on for 6 hours. Next morning only small pieces would come off the panel. applied more stripper and left for 2 hours. After 8 hours I could peel up very small pieces of the A/G. After a couple of hours of scraping the A/G was almost off. Then I noticed it. A small scratch near the middle of the screen was starting to bubble up. The stripper had seeped into a scratch and was peeling up the next layer. Plugged the lcd in and tried it out. The bubble around the scratch has no color and only shows white.

I tried to remove AG from an old gateway 9100 solo laptop (circa 1998)(LG 14inch LCD), basically because it was a cheap and for the experience, I was in the hope of ending up having a "glared notebook screen" which would be kinda cool.
Well I tried the rag method...left on wet paper towels for over 2.5 days.
The result was .... I tried to pull up one corner, the AG snapped off....I tried another corner this time somehow I had grabbed the polar bear as well, I deliberated on if to continue I tried but all the layers would not come any further than the corner I had started with a razor blade.
The only option is to try and use the paint stripper...anyone used a paint stripper available in Australia ?
Cheers

I can confirm Rhino's claim that the Liquidvision 1512 15" lcd will not succumb to the rag soak method..i tried a twelve hour soak and could only manage to get the whole a/g /polarbear combo to pry up...i guess that the ag film they use is somehow not as permeable as others...
I have removed everything and ordered a new polarizer from polarization.com

you got in to the polarizer. if you want to rescue the panel, you're going to have to take the whole polarizer sheet off and replace it - there are several threads in this forum that show how to do this.
