Well first off I bought a used 15" Dell LCD panel off ebay. Upon taking it apart I noticed it used a samsung lcd panel. After further stripping this thing was a dream, aside from the part where I had to drill out a couple small screws because I didn;t find the right jewlers screwdriver it all went smoothly.

LCD panel = Dell 1504FP 15"

No fcc issues. At least not my model.

Bad picture of the vga and dvi inputs. Also this monitor has the standard PC PSU style power plug. It has the transformer built into the LCD display so that's cool.

Next step is to remove the antiglare coating using the water technique. I will attempt this when I get home from work tonight.

So far this seems like a very easy project and the LCD was super easy to strip.

Thanks eerybody!

I recommend caution with the AG removal. The Samsung LCD panels have proven
to be hard to remove the AG from. In fact I believe no one has succesfully
removed just teh AG from a Samsung LCD.

Just a note - I was able to strip AG off of my Samsung (don't have model handy). Honestly, it was a serious pain, took MANY coats of stripper, made me extremely nervous ... but was worth ever bit of fun!!! My apologies for not posting to the methods topic.

I wish you good luck sweston, I hope you do well in your antiglare removal.

The anti glare came off w/o a hitch. Soaked it with a wet towel for about 4 hours while I cooked dinner and went to my sister in law's powder puff game. You know it gets cold at night in Iowa and my butt was freezing for about the next 2 hours afterwards.

Anyways here is the antiglare sheet removed.

Outstanding job swenston, and thanks for posting your results at my research thread. Your contribution will be of great help to others who persue removal of their antiglare.

Ok Plugged in the LCD last night after stripping off the AG layer and it still works. Whew. That's good news.

Now to build the frames for the lcd and lenses.

Howdy Swetson,

I'm considering using the 1504fp for my first basic build using the strd triplet. Any progress to share? Can you tell me the dimensions of the stripped LCD panel? Thanks!

I don't have a tape measure handy with me to measure. however today I did my first test run plugging it in and making a mock box out of cardboard and I got a relatively bright and focused image that's about 13' diagonal in my basement. Now I need to build a permanent box for it and mount everything in there.

I am so stoked now that I can actually see results!!!!

Whenever you get a minute to measure, that would be great. I'm trying to model the box and frames over the school holiday break while the screen is shipped. PJ is for my son (a big "gamer"). Sounds like mocking the box out of card/foam board really helps. Can't wait for pics.

I still need to get it in a permanent enclosure. However I watched blade trinity on it lasty night and OMG it's just like a movie theater in my basement. The projected wall size is 12' diagonal or larger. I will have to measure.

I will get better pictures. These were taken in a completely dark room and I need to change the settings on the camera to take advantage of that.

The projector is still in a cardboard enclosure with a draping to block the light. Nothing is hard mounted to getting it in perfect focus is pretty much impossible. I am going to build a box over the next week or two for mounting everything. Also the lamp I am using is a tad yellow as it's a regular GE 400W MH bulb from a nursery grow lamp I got off ebay years ago.

Also the LCD could be better. The next build (after I put this in a permanent box) will be with a higher res screen and pro kit so I can keep the projector behind the couch. Right now it is behind the couch but the image is too large to watch that close.

But WOW!!!!! My jaw dropped when viewing this for the first time with a movie. I cranked up the Q-1's and rumbled through every explosion and I was smiling from ear to ear as I though I was on fire!

I will add movie screen shots when I get the camera details fixed. However those darkening corners I do not notice in real life. Only the camera seems to pick that up.

So better ones to come.

The Icon jungle is horrible on my desktop at 1024x768. I usually run double that res on my 20" lcd.

This one gets you a grasp of the projected wall size. The projection overlaps the carpet and ceiling and goes from edge to edge. filling the whole wall.

We were soldiers. 9' wide image.

Today I had a buddy order me a Blueline 5500K 400W MH bulb to replace the 400W GE universal I have in the projector to give me a better color spectrum. He sells reef supplies and can get decent pricing on various supplies for me.

Next I need to fashion a reflector for this puppy and design an enclosure for it. The light gate will be built from some old metal AT cases housing p100 processors. Mind you these are perfectly working computers but I have 40 of them in my garage collecting dust. I figured that cutting a window in one side and trimming 1" off the bottom of the case on the other I can get sufficient airflow across the bulb and exhaust the hot air from the bulb out the back of the computer w/o light leaks. I am also planning on using an 8" fan from a Honeywell 2 speed AC desk fan for the exhaust.

Air intake will start from the front half and go under front fresnel, over lcd, under rear fresnel, over uv glass across bulb chamber, out bottom of bulb chamber, out the back of the projector
