Full Version: Damaged ballast?

Hi,
After connecting the lighting kit, my globe wont start.
It is receiving the 240v, all connections are fine. When connecting it to the power it will click (the led inside flashes aswell) then stop (i assume that is the ignition.) The ballast only clicks once, with or without a bulb.
I have two USHIO globes, neither show any light.
All connections are fine. And nothing inside looks blown, the fuse is also still fine.

Any help would be great,
Regards
Timmeh

Carbon Arcing? Is that the greenish/blue rust? I will try bending the bottom connector of the mongul up, I tried previously but i only movd it 1 or 2mm. And my bulbs are a very tight fit. I dont have any rust like buildups on my lamp or mongul. Also shouldnt the ballast be firing every 30seconds?

Carbon arcing is black marks. You need to check the prong in the holder is bent up and clean, and all connections are made properly.

The eballast is reknown for being very "fussy", but also reknown for breaking for no apparent reason!

I bent up the holders prong, all connections are fine, I've checked all my connections with a multimeter. there is no marks on any of the components, they are very nice and clean, the lamps have small bits of glass in them from the glass protector around the wire next to the gass chamber bit. I assume from swinging up and down in shipping, but i assume they should work fine. I'm 95% sure its the ballest, from what I read they should try to ignight (click) every 30 seconds? Also the sound from my ballast seems to go up and down, and kind of cut out.
Thanks all for your help!

Timmeh that's exactly what my ballast done. It work fine for a few hours then it stopped after I had turned it off. The ballast had made some very high pitched squealing noises before I turned it off. When I fired it back up all it would do was click with or without the bulb. I finally got another ballast today and my lamp turned on just like it should. Therefore I'd say it's your ballast.

You did make sure that you had it connected the correct way around? With the correct set of wires going to the lamp and to the AC power input? Connecting it the wrong way around will kill the ballast fast.

Yep, I use the same colour code as the ballest (blue, brown) and it was all wired up fine.
