Yeah it works, the FFC cables are really really short though. I got it to work without breaking anything, and it works great, watch movies, play videogames whatever. As you can see I had to mount the controller upside down...Here are some pics of the hardware.

just got mine in the mail. took it apart in like 10 min. no problems. one thing i will say about this monitor is alot of the hard plastic connectors crumbeled(nothing that will effect the lcd just the frame to the metal)

wow thanks guys

Great, I was planning on getting this one, 500:1 contrast and 450 brightness....but I looked in the in compatible list and I saw it so I decided it probably wasnt worth the hassle.

Just bought a different monitor, damnit...

joshmanqc8,

I'm using this monitor for my 1st PJ. Have you looked into extending the panel control FFC so you can adjust from the exterior of the box?

one other thing i would like to add to this thread is,

i just had a heart attack when after finishing my box and getting everyting ready the lcd monitor had problems. i would power on for about 4 seconds and then power off. well unlike other lcd monitors ive had, if you dont have a signal coming from your computer or whatevre it wil auto shutdown. hope this will healp someone down the road.

i have a question concerning this panel. i haven't received mine yet in the mail, but have everything else and am anxious to get everything ready for the lcd. i was wondering if you could tell me what the thickness of the actual panel is when mounted? i need to know how thick the notches need to be in the wooden mounts before i can build them.
Also, this may be a stupid question, but I noticed that the Simple Projector Plans Layout doesn't account for thickness of lenses and lcd monitor. do i measure from the surface of each screen to the other, or do i measure from the center of each to the next? simply, do i need to take into account the thickness of the fresnels and lcd screen for the measurements?

stogey25,

Like most panels, the thickness is about 1/8 inch; very thin. Your cuts should allow for some amount of thermal expansion and be wide enough to prevent binding when you slide the panel in. If this is your first LCD strip, then I advise you to TAKE YOUR TIME and use an anti-static mat. The 522a is connected with ffc's that are not very long (except for the one to the panel controls).

Plus as noted above, the circuit boards need to be mounted upside down with some standoffs to keep the board slightly elevated.

Joshmangc8's pictures tell it all and his approach is a good one. I used the metal frame as a guide to make the mounting holes and used a clear piece of acrylic to "sight" the hole pattern accurately. I then used 1" #4 machine screws as posts with the nuts as standoffs.

I'm still working on the panel sled. but it looks pretty much like Joshmangc8's.

I am about to strip the 522a and since i have broken 4 lcds i am a little paranoid. Can you confirm how you mounted the lcd? I see you kept the aluminium frame is this what supports the panel off the ffc cables? Did you silicone the panel to the metal frame?
Also did you disconect any of the boards while putting it into your projector? Those 2 short cables going from permanent ffcs to the mainboard look like it might be good to disconect but will they be hard to connect again once in the projector and upside down?

Any precautions i should take to avoid disaster?

Any precautions i should take to avoid disaster? When i get to the stage in this photo my plan is to just lay the motherboard (all connected) down parallel to panel. I will make a L frame for the lcd and boards. Once its done I will lift the lcd and boards and place it in. Seems like a 2 person job and this really scares me.
You have a better idea on how to place things in the frame?
