I was thinking about trying out Netflix. You get a free month. I was wanting some feedback from people who are currently using it or has in the past.

Netflix is good, but it depends on how you watch movies as to how well it works for you. When you register you need to select a list of movies that you would like to see and they send you 2,3 or 4 depending on which plan you select. With a video store you can walk in and if you feel like a comedy, you select a comedy, or action or romance or .... . With Netflix you get the next available movie on your list which maybe a comedy when you feel like an action movie or whatever. I like SciFi, and I'm happy to watch SciFi everyday, this worked when I was single but not so well when I'm married and she wants soemthing else. You can select a range of movies from different categories and even adjust the order of your wish list but they send out the next available which may not be waht you want to watch today. So basicly it works well but you don't get the instant satisfaction that a traditional video store offers.

NetFlix is a ripoff. They advertise unlimited movies for however much a month but
read this page.I was using netflix, and the distribution center for my area is only 70 miles away. I would get the movies, watch them and return them quickly. Even though the DC is only 70 miles away, it would take 4 days for the movies to get there, two days for them to process the next DVDs on my list and 4 days for the movies to get shipped to me.
15 bucks a month for unlimited movies and I only managed to get an average of 9 movies a month.
After that I canceled my account. They continued to bill me though. I had to report my CC as stolen and have a new CC issued in order to get them to stop billing me.
Don't do netflix.

For what i use em for, it works great for me and my wife. The nearest distribution center is in Vegas about 90 miles from here...takes a day to get there, usually a day or for processing, and a day back. Local video store rents $4.99/movie (for new releases or best sellers, 2.99 for old movies) for 5 days. If the movie is late you are charged a 4.99 late fee but can keep it for another 5 days before getting hit with another late fee. Now my life can sometimes be really busy, so lets take for example, I go to the store rent 3 new releases, thats $15 right there, now if i forget to get them back in time, i get dinged another $15. Thats $30, and ive watch only 3 dvds. Netflix makes it really convienent, I pay $17.99/mo, 3 out at a time, unlimited rentals. Even if i only watch 3 movies per month, im only spending $3 more than locally. I usually watch at least 10 per month, and if i dont remember to mail them out im not penalized....i like it.

I had NetFlix service up until I moved to my new apartment. They are a great source for harder to find (or rent) DVDs. for example, I used netflix to watch the entire Stargate SG1 series, 1 season at a time. That goes for the entire Robotech (anime) series also. Try finding all 8 seasons of SG1 at your local Blockbuster...
However, the site linked by Supersnail is a good source of info about the questionable business practices employed by NetFlix. I had many DVDs come to me unplayable, but, since I already have a CD cleaner as well as a CD/DVD resurfacer, I'd usually just spend a few minutes cleaning or resurfacing as needed. To their credit, the few DVDs I did get that were too far gone to even resurface were replaced within a few days. But, as stated in the link, that's a few days that you're now without your movie...

I live 60 miles from Atlanta and I send my movies back Monday morning and get my new ones Thursday.
I have never received a DVD that wouldn't play and I have never received a "replacement" movie. It's always been the ones I asked for.
A great service. Highly recommended.

I've not used it because I was suspicious of a company that advertised no late fees even if you keep the DVD's for 99 years, yet you must pay a monthly fee as long as you still have the DVD's.
So let's see... 99 years @ 17.95/mo = $21,324.60 ...yeah that's a deal.

Hey flyboy, I have all the stargate seasons on my queue now. Im 110 miles from the closest distribution site. Takes a day for them to receive them, they ship that day, and two days for me to get mine back. Most weeks I can only get 3 dvd's, on rare occasions I get 4. Late fees have always killed me when renting so this is a big money saver for me. The selection though is the biggest reason. I have yet to get the movie I want, and waits have been very rare for new releases. If they were open Saturday you would get more movies in a week, or if you live very near the distribution center. Overall I would say its a good service.

I have had Netflix for about a year now. I really like it. Of course, they have a distribution center in the city I live in and on top of that, their P.O. Box is in the same post office as the P.O. Box for my employer. So, I have our secretary drop them off for me. If I watch DVDs like mad I can easily go through 10 DVDs / week.
I also tried out Blockbuster's DVDs by mail service. It sucked in comparison to Netflix. Of course, YMMV.

I have Netflix. I love the fact that they carry so many tv shows on dvd. I'm 45 miles from the closest distribution center. Shipping takes a day for me. Sure you get the occational scratched or broken disk, but the same can be said for getting dvds through Blockbuster or Hollywood video. Although broken discs are far less prevalent in a chain store.

I have Netflix. It's makes you look forward to going to the mail box because sometimes there's a movie instead of bills and junk mail.

My opinion... Netflix is a must have for all projector owners. Greatest thing since sliced bread! I average about 20 movies a month for about $18. You just cant beat that.
Oh and PS... Ive never had a defective movie.

I just received a "notice of class action settlement" from netflix... apparently someone in SanFran wasn't too happy that Netfilx would slow down deliveries if renting too many movies... I have noticed this effect, but am still happy with the service. Apparently I can "upgrade" my service from 3/month to 4/month for free for one month... what a settlement... better than the $0.13 I received on a ccard statement as part of another "class action lawsuit"... lawyers musta gotten fat on that one....
The slowest the service has been allows about 3 per week (12/month), so at $18, that works out to $1.50 per rental. The fastest service i've received allows 6 per week (24/month), which works out to $0.75 per rental... I did the 6 per week for a while (just after my PJ was finished... go figure)... but even now, 3 per week is quite a few movies. I simply cancel my membership (right at the end of the month before the CC gets charged for a new month) when I go into "movie overload" (generally during summer months), then re-instate my membership after going into "movie withdrawl" mode (winter months). I should note that I only live about 35 miles from the nearest dist. center as well, so this may have something to do with my 6/week turnaround, but everyone should be able to get 3/week as a minimum.
My suggestion, try it, free for 30-days was the deal I got at one time, normally it is only 15-day trial.... just be sure to canel in time or your into it for $18 !

We have been on netflix for about two years now and we have rarely had a problem with them. The big reason for us to go on NF was the selection. My wife caught an entire season of 24 in one week. They have a lot of series sets and such that most of our local stores dont stock. Try the trial period and see how you do. My nearset distribution center is 120 miles away and it still only takes a day to ship.

I used to get 4 at a time, but 3 would come, then the last one a few days later. I was doing 4 a week steady at this time so maybee that's part of the lawsuit. Back to 3 now and I can't even keep up with that. Even if I only get 3 a month its still the same price as going to the local store for ~$4.50 a movie.

Blockbuster also has a promo. First month free. Its a trial period. Sign up , get your movies, then cancel before the end of the month. It takes 3 seconds to cancel. Make sure you sign up other family members as well.
