Hey everyone,

Looking through the forums for a few months now. Here's what I'm starting with.

NEC 17" 1700V LCD
400:1 Contrast
1280x1024 Native Resolution
40ms response time. (On + Off)

I know the response time is high but it had a bad backlight and I got it cheap. Hopefully it'll get here in the next few days. Planning on purchasing my lighting equipment from a lighting supply store. The only design my wife didn't totaly reject was pun15her's 15" vertical. "If it had to be any. It would have to be like that" smile.gif I guess that's as good as a "go ahead" as any I'm gonna get. I'm planning on using threaded rods to move my lcd, lenses and bulb. I'd like to possibly upgrade to the Pro Lenses when they are available. Now for my questions.

All guides refer to a "point lightsource". Would using a smaller reflector create a better point lightsource? Or a larger reflector pushing more light ahead be better?

Any recomendations for Fresnel Lenses? I dont think the standard 220/320 will cover the 17" display.

Does anyone know any Canadian companies to get fresnel lenses from?

Has anyone stripped a NEC 1700V LCD? Any FFC issues?

My personal intrest in this project is my XBOX. Everything else is just an extra.

PS: Great Job Pun15her for your inspiration. love jcavs finishing job also.

My LCD is finaly here and it seems the NEC V1700 LCD has an FFC issue. I've stripped it down to the plain LCD and put it mostly back together for the protection. I'll post a few pics of the stripping in the next few days.

I've got a 13 1/2 " X 11" screen. Are my fresnel lenses supose to be exactly that or bigger?
Is there any advantage of longer or shorter focal lengths in a fresnel lense? other then the obvious one of size of projector.

To cover a 17" you will have to buy your fresnels from 3dlenes.com they are $29 each plus shipping make sure to select us air shipping or the will go by boat and thke 30 days"like mine" for the 80mm triplet you will need the #395A #395B
Rember with the 80mm triplet your PJ is going to be vary close the the screen so the PJ will most likely be next to you or in front of you.
to put it behind you you will need the pro lens and the fresnel that goes with it. the pro lens is comming in dec. I think.

If you want long throw now you will need a 550mm fresnel from 3dlenes and a 18" fl lens from a Opaque Projector the opaque will cost around $100 and shiping the lens will not give perfect focus on the edges but is good and when the pro lens gets hear if you want you can just plop it in.
The 550mm fresnel is a little short but you should be able to adjust for it.
Right now there is some one selling a 135mm lens from a different place that is almost as good as the Opaque Projector lens and is less money. look at the trading post in the forms.

good luck Dave

Ok, I'm probably going to be going with the pro lens for my setup. My second fresnel need a focal length of approx 500mm or 550mm. Correct? the focal length of the first fresnel is only dependant on the bulb and not the lens right?
