Hi,
A friend has an old laptop sitting around that has software issues that is just sitting around gathering dust and they are going to donate it / discard it - they are never going to use it again! So I was wondering if a laptop screen could be dismantled for use for a projector? If so, is it good enough?

Thanks!

well, it depends on what you mean...if you mean take the screen off the laptop and use it in a projector, short answer is no... because the controller that tells the lcd how to display the picture is a part of the laptop, not the lcd screen and the controller can't be seperated from the laptop circuitry.... having said that, if the laptop itself was still working it is possible(depending on the cables in the lcd itself) to make a projector out of the whole laptop..problem would be that you couldn't hook a dvd player or cable/tv to it(unless the laptop had those already) ..now being as I download most of my movies that is not a big problem, you could just hook it to your home network and transfer movies to it...
another consideration, even if the laptop is still working is that older laptops screens generally aren't vey good as far s speed.......
