I see most people use the 400 watt MH lamps, is there a reason for this? I see they have alot of 1000 watt kits on ebay, they say they are for growing plants and such, is it the same thing you should use for the projector though?

I have just had trouble trying to find where to get a ballast mogul and bulb that is not LL because of backorder. I was hoping to pick up one of the 1000watt kits though from ebay, is that something I could use?

Anyone know of another place to get kits, or somewhere that just sells all the needed parts?

I have looked through most of the topics and things in the trading post, but just have not quite found the answers I am looking for.

400W is used to get the brightness we need without too much heat. Anything over 400W you run into heat issues. I bought my lighting at www.atlantalightbulbs.com

I am a pc modder and have 4 220cfm monster fans I could use for cooling as well as a peltier AC unit i made (the fans, if not connected to anything will literally blow them selves away when turned on). If cooling is the only issue then perhaps it should do fine?

I would like to be able to use the projector in semi normal lighting conditions, so maybe I need something a bit brighter? or does the 400watt produce enough light that it should be fine?

well, heat isn't the only issue (and really not the main one anymore) .... those bulbs(1000watt) have such a large arc that the extra light is pretty much wasted in a projector .....

Oh, I see. So the main concern then is using the 400 watts effeciently with good placement and reflector?

Is that what I need?

exactly..that would work(can't see the specs) you might try www.hidirect.com also, is cheaper ballast is V90D7612K (67.00).... the correct bulb isn't listed (ED28) and neither is the mogul but the mogul base is 4.50 extra..altogether I think you'd save at least 15-20 $.... plus no shipping on the ballast(but order over the phone hidirect website sucks), don't know about atlantabulbs shipping ...hmmm here look at this link , search on sawtoothkm (I think) plog....he used that setup(hidirect) ..and yes efficiency is the keyword here..plus take a look at extreme mods for the latest in increasing brightness (but don't do anything mentioned in that thread yet ;-), we're still working on it but the prospects are fantastic... plus chek out the light fusion threads in the screen section...
