I need some advise on nvidia or some other video card. I’ve finally got sick of trying to find a triplet to resolve a 17” LCD and use lens shifting. So I’ve decided to go for a dedicated 16:9 ratio instead off the 4:3. I’ll be wasting about 40mm top and bottom of the 17” LCD but I’ll just have to live with it. I can get 50% lens shift at 16:9 using 3dlens.com fresnels and a 342mm 3M triplet perfect focus corner to corner. That means I’ll be able to put the PJ completely out of the screen’s way. I realise that any 4:3 images will now have to fit into 16:9 so black bars will be on either side but the pj’s primary purpose will be to play movies. Now to the question what is the best way to shrink a 4:3 ratio image? Things like the desktop, PS2 and TV. What type of card and or complete PC would be the most versatile? And what other disadvantages would be?

I gotta say that Powerstrip has been really impresive for me.

Any recent graphics card will be able to handle it.

The system boots up with the panel in full 4:3 (or 5:4 in the case of my 17") but once logged in, it shifts to a windowed display. It's quite satisfactory. There are some tips in my PLoG about it, that I received. Works like a charm.

I'm currently using an 1120X840 4:3 window in the 17" panel, which is approximately 15" diagonal. This works well for me with the standard 15" fresnel lenses.

On another 17" panel, I did a custom resolution to display a 1280X720 desktop with black bars top and bottom. It works perfectly, and makes the Windows desktop widescreen. Fun to play with, but not really needed in my case. (I was thinking about it as a possibility for doing a new 17" project.
