Why get a bulky pc powersupply if you can use a 12v powersupply and hook the fans to it directly!? Most people may have these at home lying around already!

Also a QUESTION: How easy is it to mess up a fan by mixing up powersupply polarities (+ and -). I've got two 120mm Glacialtech silentblades and I can't get either to start with my powersupply (12v, 800amp). I tried two other case fans which work fine with the powersupply. Mixing the poles does not break the two other fans I tested. So is it likely that the fans were already broken when bought? I'm going to return them but I'd feel more comfortable complaining knowing that I coulden't have broken them. rolleyes.gif

It is unlikely but possible that reversing poles could damage your fans, so you cant rule that out. Are you sure they are 12v fans?

Thanks for the quick reply! Yeah Im sure theyre 12v, 0.2 amp, dual ballbearing, 37 CFM, 19dB. Here's The specs http://www.glacialtech.com/pdf/12025.pdf ive got the black ones.

I am also currently using 12V power supply that use to power a cable modem. Works great and is small. Some people use the PC power supply because they 12V for the fans and 5V for other things like motors and fan/temp controller/monitor.

BTW, I don't think reversing the polaritys fryed your fans. I have done that a few times and have never destryoed one yet.

You can use any pc psu, connect the green wire to any of the black wires, and use it with no motherboard. That way,you can put a pc fan controller in to monitor temps and fan speeds, also having standard molex connections to supply 12v,5v,or 7v,to anthing you can think of,ie;motors, more fans, neon under PJ lightng!,etc etc!
My micro psu is thinner, easier to connect, and alot more adaptable for expansion purposes than a simple mains reduction transformer, and is also fan cooled!

YAY, got my fans exchange for working ones. I was careful not to cross the poles now and they both work! Also received a projection screen cloth & UV filter from spain. Waiting for izzotek for the rest of my gear..!
