Did you hook it up to a computer first when you turned it on or just alone? Check your power cord and/or vga cables. Otherwise if don't work dont strip it to figure it out internally, if you can return it then do so.

i hooked it up to the computer first ofcourse....

i tried changing vga cables...still the same thing...

if i strip it what should i look for? blink.gif
SupraGuy
Return it if at all possible before even attempting to strip it. Once you've opened the case, there's no chance of a warranty.

This is the kind of thing that a disconnected FFC, or torn edge connector can cause.

can a edge connector get torn while in shipment?

because im pretty sure this happend in shipment..

and the guy only put in $100 worth of insurance!!!!!!!!!!!GRR!

i dont know what to do.... sad.gif

only if i knew the problem for sure,
SupraGuy
Regardless of if it happened in shipment or not, the instant that you take out a screw, either the seller or the shipper or both can say that it was you who did the damage.

Don't void the warranty on a non-working monitor.
jaigandhi5
Thre reason he only put $100USD of insurance is because i paid $175CAD

and then with conversion to USD which is $150-$30

making it $120USD

i dont think he wants the lcd back.....

i dont know what to do now...
mattcosturos
You tell him you want a refund for selling you a defective LCD panal.

Looks like you might get stuck eating the cost of shipping, if he won't send you a replacement....
Im not sure what else you can do on ebay besides leave negative feedback...
If you used paypal can you dispute the payment?, and try and get a refund.

Are you absolutely sure he does not want a return?

You want to have a working panel in the first place before proceeding to even concieve building a projector.

I'd say do all you can to get back your money, even if it's a small loss and get another panel. If you definately can't get this seller to swap or return, then try selling it back in ebay. Remember if it does not work as a monitor in the first place then you have a lesser chance of it working as a projector but try selling it as nonworking monitor has better chance then selling it as a dead stripped LCD.

Good luck, but as far as the time you will spend will be greatly rewarding when you finally get it done. Unless you want to settle with commercial spending more $$ and without the glory of having built it.

Good luck!
DeathRay64
Of course he dosen't want it back... then he would have to accept responsibility that he either defrauded you or insufficiently packed the monitor. He didn't offer a not DOA guarantee?

Was the packaging beat up when it arrived? Do you still have this packaging as evidence of mishandling? If not, you are unlikly to collect on insurance. If it was UPS you would never collect no matter what.

Unless the package was extremely beat up. The seller should be held responsible and should offer a refund otherwise your only recourse is a paypal dispute and negative feedback as some have already suggested.

the box is perfectly fine....

hmm....

let me email him again..
jaigandhi5
Well the seller is not replying my emails.
The reason i cant claim this with ebay is because i emailed the sell saying i dont want to wait for the bidding to end and i would like to buy the lcd ASAP.
So i offered him $175 and he accepted....and the bidding for the lcd was closed.

another thing i noticed about the lcd....when i shake it a little i hear something moving back and forth...? what could that be?

Your call jaigandhi, the sound you hear could be something loose inside or just an ffc tape/controller wires knocking against the monitor's shell, who knows. If your up to it with the possibility of more damage to this panel then proceed taking off the back shell and examine it. But make sure your able to put it back with out showing tampering. SonicWonder2000 had a more serious problem with his when he built his pj and had stripped his lcd, had it working and 'POOF' blown circuitry on board, but he fixed it. Gutsy, but his perserverance and 'deeper' knowledge of circuitry paid off.

Your call jaigandhi, we're behind you since you want to build regardless but we can't persuade you on the best alternative in replacing the panel when your goal is primarily to get the build done.

I love you guys smile.gif

Thanks for the super quick reply....

What would u do if you were in my situation?

im also afraid of the "I took it apart, now i have no idea how to put it back" laugh.gif
Another problem is that it is PRACTICALLY impossible to find another 15" LCD with good specs in Canada for $175-210$CAD sad.gif

Sorry jaigandhi, can't do that....my best suggestion is 'flip a coin'.
SupraGuy
What would I do?

Well for starters, I wouldn't have circumvented eBay, so that I'd have some protection from eBay and Paypal. In which case I'd ship the monitor back to the seller, and demand that they honour a DOA policy.

But that doesn't help you.

Given that it sounds as if the seller isn't willing to work with you at all...

If it's really a new monitor, I'd see if there's a factory warranty on it. Contact the manufacturer with the serial number of the unit, and see if they're willing to work with you. There might be a problem because of the border, but I've found that most manufacturers are quite willing to work with you to resolve problems. After all, if they handle a problem for you efficiently, you're more likely to be a returning customer.

And if that fails, I'd go ahead and take it apart. But ONLY if that fails. There's no going back as soon as you open the case, you own it.

If the panel itself is okay, then you may have a chance to try different electronics. There are fewer actual panels than there are brand names, and it's possible that someone may have control boards which will work with your panel.
jaigandhi5
well i went for it....took the lcd apart..

unfortunately all the ffc's were intact and nothing was loose... sad.gif

is there anything else i should check for before putting it back together?
