Alright well im getting ready to start making my 17" lcd projector since the lenses are comign in soon.
Basically im goign to make this projector to be used in my room, my brothers room, living room, garage, and maybe at my work (a local theatre).

1 So obviously making a adjustable keystone would be essential. Anyone recomend a certyain way to make it adjustable?

2 my other question is how exactly do you hook up a reciever to the projector if it was connected to a dvd player.

3. THis is my main question. Should i
a) make the projector with a viewsonic n6 so i can connect my ps2, comp, dvd player to it?
cool.gif get an ATI card such as a all in wonder that has tv tuner, rca inputs and vga in already on it and make a computer to go along with the projector?

Ive really been thinking about which route i want to go with, the thing is, im goign to mostly use the projector for computer games and watching DVDs but mainly games. So which is the best to go with?
thanks Q!!@

  1. Read the guide. Really. Search for Keystone on the forum, or just read through the thread on keystone in the pinned section here. There are many ways to make keystone adjustment, but the simple method of tilting the field fresnel in front of the LCD works well for reasonable correction. Other options exist if more extreme correction is required, which are too much to go into detail here.

Seriously, look it up, there's a lot of information here.
  2. However you want to. As long as you can get a compatable output for your LCD panel, you're good to go. An LCD TV is also an option, those are avaialble for less than the cost of most LCD panels plus conversion boxes.
  3. Some people like the N6, but many people who have one says that it blows chunks. Brightness and resolution detail problems abound. The best option seems to be to use an HTPC. TV tuner cards are cheap and in my experience work well. The HTPC solution seems to be superior in practically all respects.

Again, getting an LCD TV may be an excellent solution for you. It will have the TV tuner, and multiple inputs, also most likely remote control. It can then be used with no PC at all for TV viewing, game consoles, or a PC, since they typically also have VGA inputs.

I intended to use my projector mostly for PC gaming, and I certainly did that, but it was the movies that I really got hooked on.

I used a 3/8(I believe) wooden dowel for keystoning. It uses gravity to auto keystone. I believe I got the idea from JoeChevy2000.

If you don't care about using progressive scan for your ps2, and you are willing to pay the money, building a computer is your best bet.

If you want progressive scan (480P) abilities for the PS2, you can buy a Vdigi transcoder to convert the component to VGA.

Unless you don't mind poor image quality, do not buy a N6. I have one and it is a joke.

Well, I get together with friends and we play LAN games. Against a computer is less fun.

We get together once a week or so. FarCry is a popular FPS staple, UT is fun, but a little too reflex based to keep up for too long.

I personally like driving games. We were playing Midnight Club 2 for a while, but then I got a faster PC. There's a bug in the game where a faster PC lets your car go faster on the network. 50 mph on my PC would let me blow right by my friend with his speedo reading 90 mph. That pretty much put an end to that.

NFSU2 was lots of fun, and provided a more level playing field. We had lots of fun with that one, and still do now and again.

Currently the driving game of choice is Flatout, if for no other reason than the damage model, which is excellent. The physics are kind of arcadish, but fun nonetheless.

Colin McRae 2004, and now 2005 are also good, but the head-to-head isn't really, so we end up duking it out with shadows that we can't interact with. Not as much fun when you can't push the other driver off of the road, but it's still kinda cool.

The only game that I've played on a console that I can't get for my PC that I really liked was Burnout 3. I almost (But only almost) bought an Xbox specifically to play that game. And if it comes down to it, then I'll just wait for an Xbox emulator to catch up and be able to play the game. smile.gif

Actually, I believe with the prolens and a 17 inch, we will be able to lens shift a lot further then we can with the standard triplet. Especially with a 500 mm focal length. We should at least be able to shift 25% without going out the triplets field of view (unlike the standard lens)

I'd look into lens shifting.

wow sounds like u liek ur racing games. Im mainly going to use my set up for 1) Dvds 2) PC games (like dod:source and starcraft. yeas starcraft, ive never put a stop to my addicion)

when quake 4 comes out,,, oh man.
SupraGuy
Starcraft is still good. In fact it's the CD that's currently in the drive of the PC I'm using now. smile.gif

Yeah, I like my racing games. It's fun to be able to drive in ways that I can't in real life. (Midnight Club 2 gets fired up now and again specifically for mowing down pedestrians!) And full throttle corners that I can make MOST times (But not EVERY time) would really mess up my Supra in real life. smile.gif

But in any case, with the use that I put my projector to, it's better to have a PC. smile.gif
