How hot does your reflector get and of what material is it made from? If anyone uses aluminum, have you noticed any oxidization? Has any metal dis-coloured?

I am asking because I might get my friend to make some in his machine shop. If your interested please catch up on that in the reflection thread. Anyways, I want to know if there is any known problems with heat, material and reflectors.

Please comment.

Very hot. I wouldn't want to touch mine for quite a while after the lamps been off. This is stainless steel, so it's not really efficient Aluminum wouldn't get AS hot, but there's just so much heat around that lamp that it's going to be quite toasty.

The surface of my bulb is reaching upwards of 320°, the inside surface of my lightbox is getting to ~125°. If I get time tonight I'll take some temp readings on the back of my reflector (2mm aluminium, hand polished front and matt black high temp paint on the back).

And both of you witness no discolouration? That's also something I want to know, you know that blue tinge, or even black if metal gets too hot.
SupraGuy
Nope. And I just had a very good look at the metal last night.

My first stainless piece did that, but it was pretty close to the bulb. My new aluminium piece has a 4" radius and is 2mm thick. I haven't noticed any discolouration on it yet.

I didn't get time to muck around with the PJ tonight. Too much work to do.
