Hi everybody,

I have been having this problem for a while where the projector will shut down after 90 min to 120 min of use. At first, I thought that the eballast was getting to hot in the enclosure so I took it out of the projector box. Now it still does the same.

Any idea as to how to keep the eballast inside while keeping it cooled enough?

Should there be some kind of a small box within the projector to fit the eballast inside and to have its own cooling system?

What do you guys think?

Thanks, any input is appreciated, as I have had enough of seeing my projector shut down in the middle of a movie. rolleyes.gif

Take a look at my PLOG, page 17, 1/2 way down. My e-ballast was shutting off due to high temp as well; the only way around this is to actively cool them or make sure there is airflow accross the fins of the heatsink (from a room fan). Also, mounting the e-ballast in the case is just asking for trouble. With all the reliability issues with these ballasts, heat is one thing they don't need ...

Good luck. smile.gif

If it MUST be in the projector case...

Place it in the front area, between the projection lens and the LCD.

Add in the ballast to the cooling circuit, so that the fins get airflow.

Ok, and if I was to do that, I do you add the ballast to the cooling circuit? The airflow is as per the plans, going from the opening on top of the projector, between the lcd and back fresnel, passing at the bottom of the back fresnel and then out at the back of the projector. Right now, there is no airflow whatsoever in the front portion of the pj. What do you suggest? Any picture of such a setup?

Thanks smile.gif

You'd need a second opening, fan and vent in the front area then.

My projector has airflow from the front all the way to the back, so it's easier for me. I don't have my ballast in that area, though, because I have a separate area for a PC. The ballast is in that chamber.

Thats just it, you must have air flow. After the front fresnel towards the triplet is sealed cause you dont want light leaks. Therefore, you could configure a way to have airflow in that area without ambiant light entering and fluttering your keystoning fresnel or take Sonicwonders advise and place it outside with some fans forcing air thru its fins. Theres no way out of it unless your wanting to attach a tubular coil with some sort of coolant running thru it transfering the heat, just like what they are doing with overclocked CPU cores.

I suggest you also check your connections, including mogul base. It is possible that your circuit is opening due to thermal expansion. It is also possible your bulb or ballast is defective.
