Nothing wrong with that rig but you wouldn't want to use the reflector. Also since it comes with an HPS bulb as well as metal halide it might be an HPS ballast that is running conversion bulbs.

Hmm...I see. On that note then, should I steer clear of ballasts that run both sodium and MH too? Or do you mean my lamp would't be usable on that gear? Shame, I could have modded the housing it into a nice lightbox.

Brainchild, is there a reason why this type of reflector shouldn't be used? I've been reading people using cut norpro bowls or cut soup ladles however with the shape of this rectangular curved reflector, isn't this good to shine the light to the shape of an LCD? Please share your thoughts thanks.

Yes we need our light to emanate from a point light source. We are not looking for a flood lamp at all. The reflector must be designed with that principle in mind. Have a read through the reflection topic for more info.
