Well it doesn't have a lot of specs but this might be a good alternative to the current $715 WUXGA kit available.

It looks nice, and has a lot of inputs that will save you money as you will not have to buy a tv tuner box. However, I doubt that the 1280 x 1024 resolution is native, it is probably a 1024 x 768 native res like all other 15" panels with an ability to compress 1280 x 1024. I would look into that before buying, as all 15" panels tha claim that res so far have been in a comressed, not native form.

Well it's actually a widescreen 15.5" monitor that's why I was thinking it's native and not compressed.

This is not a widescreen. The description lists it as a 15" 4:3 monitor, regardless of the listing title saying 15.5" (probably a mistake). Be wary of what Mantis is saying. Also of concern is no reponse time, and no contrast ratio ratings.

Buyer beware.

It's a 15.5" monitor similiar to this one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/22-SUPER-15...sspagenameZWDVW

The dimensions are : 11"*15.7" with the bezel. So I'm guessing 8"*13.5" without, which IS a widescreen.

The seller is in HongKong which could mean a translation problem ?
mantis
Even at 15.5", I still doubt the resolution is 1280 x 1024 native. The .5" would not change it that much naturally. I would look for the manufacturers web site with the specs before jumping in. Do not be so excited about the possibility that you overlook the reality. I hope that I am wrong as this would be great if true. However, many have been down this path where the listed res was 1280 x 1024, but it has always turned out to be a max, and not a native res when seen on a 15" monitor (except with lap tops). Also, be sure to find the contrast ratio and response time before buying as stated by gadget.
mantis
I sent the seller an e-mail to ask those questions. Either way, I would still look on the manufacturer's web site before buying.
jonjandran
Oh I'm not jumping into anything here. I've e-mailed the seller and I'm trying to clarify things.

But there are several 15.4" Dell screens that do 1920*1200 resolution so it is possible for a 15.5" widescreen .

And if I could find the Manufactures website I would look for the info.
mantis
Those 15.4" dell screens are laptop screens if i am not mistaken. I am not saying that a 15.5" screen can't do 1280 x 1024, just that as of so far, all that have claimed it, have only been tru fro max, not native resolution.
jonjandran
Well I got a response to my e-mail and it doesn't help much.

My questions :

1. Is this a 15inch or a 15.5 inch screen ?
2. Is this a widesreen 16:9 or a regular 4:3 screen?
3. Is the resolution of 1280+1024 native or compressed?
4.What is the contrast ratio?
5. What is the response time in ms ?
6. Who is the manufature of this item and what is the model # ?

And their answers :

Thank you for emailing me.

1. It is a 15.5" screen.
2. This is a regular 4:3 screen.
3. The resolution is 1280x1024. The resolution is amximum.
4. Brightness: 400cd/m2
5. I do not know about this.
6. The manufacture of this item is us.
Thank you.

Well I'll try again. sad.gif
mantis
That tells you that indeed the 1280 * 1024 is only a compressed res to 1024 * 768 like all other 15" screens. That is always the case when they say that the 1280*1024 is the max res and not the native. Oh well, it was worth a try.
Mikau
Saw some 15 inch monitors in a new Dell catalog that I think said 1280x1024 native. Only 60 hz refresh rate though.
mantis
Just got a new catalong from Dell. WIll have to take a look.
