Im glad your lcd is still working; putting the electronics directly on carpet like that is a bad idea. Static electricity can kill that stuff in a heartbeat.
You know I hear that all the time but I've been working on electronics for 16 years and heve yet to kill anything with static electricity. (knock on wood).
When I was in the business of repairing voltage regulators for airplanes I even tried on purpose to fry some very sensitive parts by walking on carpet, scuffing my feet, etc. Never could fry anything. Not that I recommend that.
But I gues the first time I kill a part I'll probably take it more seriously.

You may have done it and not known it.
Most cases of ESD damage is undetected, the CMOS chips are undiagnosed to be at fault and then tossed in the trash.
ESD is a big deal, and most places with service tecnicials require them to work off of an ESD mat, and where a grouned ESD bracelet.
BTW wouldnt Voltage regulators for an Airplane be a high current device that could handle the ESD shock?
