Full Version: DIY mp4 Player?

I thought about the idea of creating a video player the other day and started sketching down some ideas but I really have no idea what I would need to do or if its even possible.

I have a modded psone screen that i was going to use for another project that I can input the video into. I made a diagram, shown below, of what I was thinking would need to happen. I know its going to be more complex than what i have down there but is my diagram theoretically correct? Do these exist or am I just making up things? Is feasible to make or should I just forget about it? If it is possible than where would I get the parts and what parts would I really need? I'm sorry if I sound like an idiot or if I'm crazy. Any information would be great.

Thanks,
Notch

I think you'd be MUCH better off just buying an MP4 player (cost and size).

Hi notch,

I did something on those lines with audio streaming from smartmedia for my final year degree project. It is a very complicated task to say the least, video/audio decoding is extremely complicated and so is accessing IDE devices/flash memory. I used an FPGA 'processor' for everything which meant designing the whole thing in hardware using VHDL code. Definitely one to leave for the proffesionals sorry to say. I would buy an mp4 player if you really need one as jmrguy suggested.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll have to find something else to satisfy my diy cravings...lol
