I will try to describe this idea, because I do not have any software for making a picture of it.
Picture the normal bulb with spherical reflector, then put a box type structure around it, where a hole would appear in the front just large enough for a pre condenser lens to gather any light coming out. The inside of the box would have mirrors that reflect the unuseable light back, where mirrors and the reflector aim it out the hole. Of cousre you would not be able to get all the light out as that would require a significant useage of complicated mirror placements. However, a few well placed mirrors may allow for a significant increase in useable light. Of course the pre condensor lens would then send the light to the rear fresnel. Tell me if anyone thinks this idea, or a variation of it has any merit.

I also wonder if the whole inside of the box was lined with mirrors except for where the reflector is, wouldn't the light continue to bounce around until it either hit the reflector and was sent out, or simply bounced out the hole and into the pre condesor lens?

Also, the pre condensor lens should stop issues with uneven lighting.

Well, for your box... how about a square headlight? If there was a way that you could "cut" the lense off, and then "cut" the filliment part out of the back. What do you think?

If those older square headlights can not be "cut" ina feasible fashion, why not try something from a newer model car? There has to be a make and model of something with an appropriate modifiable headlamp assembly.
