Ok I took my screen, a spare HTPC and my PJ to worktoday to show it off as many have been interested in it and borrowed a camera smile.gif I still have a long way to go on finishing the box, painting it mounting it and etc but the alignment for the most part is done. I also need to add a second 80mm fan ands make better guards to block the light coming from them.

If anyone wants high res pics let me know smile.gif

I will also be making a better screen for this and will more than likely paint with Behr Silverscreen paint

Specs:
Samsung 512N brightness and contrast @ 100% VGA Connection

Venture Bulb (oddly my bulb had problems and only wantedto be on at one position or the color would be way off, the brightness would be down and the bulb intensity would fluctuate

E-Ballast

HTPC output VGA from Chaintech 6600GT
Nvidia DVD decoders in MCE 2005

Screen is a $20 pull down shade from lowes, many imperfections to it and light leaks through it but it does exeptionally well. You can actually stand behind the screen and see everything biggrin.gif

Screen is about 92" diagonal

3 60W bulbs facing away from the screen and 3 more across the room in light pictures

complete darkness in dark pictures

some of the dark pictures seem over exagerated and while it is extremely bright and clear it is not glowing in some areas like the star wars episode 2 pics

the monsters inc scene of the stuffed monster appears more blueish on the picture but in actuality it is much more brownish redish
Here are my results:

BTW the dark scenes can be seen a little better than what was in the pictures, the lights in the room made the camera focus a little odd. While it is not extremely bright or anything it is a little better than in the pictures smile.gif

In less light like only one or two 60W bulbs that are behind the projector dark scenes look good enough to watch. Hopefully a better screen will help this more.

You will also notice the light at the bottom and top of the screen on black screens. THis is really exaggerated by the camera as well and is not as noticeable in person but is undoubtedly there. This seems to be a problem many are facing right now

Outstanding results Nintari.
About the light bleeding, I donīt think we can do much about it. Iīm going to use some black fabric all around the blackout cloth to keep them as dim as possible.
Im seriously considering to do the same automated screen built by Sepultura:

that is a nice screen but honestly I don't think this will bother me very much smile.gif

I cant wait to see results with a better screen though and less lighting in the room I think that with the 6 60W bulbs in the room that the projector did fairly well biggrin.gif

One hting I am noticing in the pictures though is the colors just dont seem the same as they were in person. The blue in the dark shot of media center looks more aqua but it is a very nice blue in person. I knwo many people who show there results here say these things in thier threads and now I can really relate with them biggrin.gif

What venture bulb are you using?
blake
Wow dude, that is just.... astonishing. blink.gif biggrin.gif
nintari
AFAIK it is just the regular ED28 Venture bulb

Whats fun is I have had this setup upstairs with lots of ambient light (no lights on inside but plenty of sunlight bleeding through blinds... I can read in this light easy) on a cream wall @ 120" and it still looks nice...obviously dark scenes suffer greatly but still fun. I have been palying gamecube with my kids most of the day through the N6

where did you get the pvc for the focus mech(and what is it)? and how did you do it?
nintari
I got it from lowes, it is a PVC pipe condensor. I cant remember what size it was. The unit slides in and out of the box kind of like the box in a box design but a round PVC pipe instead.

The lens is held by another section of PVC from another adapter that I cut and slides in the inside smaller side of the condensor. I have foam tape in place to hold it a bit more snug so the lens doesnt shift around.

thanks! thats what I wanted to know if it was just one piece or two.... I discovered the HTPC site a while back and get a lot out of it, though I've mostly been here the last month or two ;-) should finish my pj this weekend and then prob dl the latest MediaPortal, using an old AIW 7500 and honeslty for most viewing the standard ati software that came with it works great and I love the remote but will prob upgrade to a newer card so I can run MCE .....

well a lot has happened with me over the last few months and I hadnt had time to do much of anything. Going through a divorce and of course the projector went with me lol....but now I dont have any way of mounting it or using it due to the layout of the rooms....so I may end up doing a coffee table project and have to redo my projector!

As I start on this though I will post and let you all know of what I do! Besides I need to get on the article I planned on writing!!!! lol
DarkMeat
Congrats on a job well done and smart move taking the pj with you smile.gif

For a while there I was sweating! I could not figure out for the life of me where to put my projector now that I am in a different house. There was only one room it would have worked out in.... but this was supposed to be my dining room!

Well... I decided after finding a poker table on clearance, that had a nice table top for it... I would make a non-traditional dining room! The poker table is 6.5 feet oblong... so I tested the projector placed under it and angled up some and viola!!

But sadly I am broke right now lol, I need to build a screen for this room, get some comfy chairs, decoratiosn and etc.

Too bad I dont have a digital camera anymore or I would take some in progress pics biggrin.gif
