Okay so the dilemna I am facing right now is that I don't know where to start sourcing theparts for the projector or to build a proper HTPC. I know I need a new vid card for my rig (9500np unlocked and OC'd to 9700 pro) as I will have Quake 4 on release and I don't think my card is up to the challenge of it. Right now I'm running a 2500 Barton, gig of 2700 hyperX, and that 9500 ->9700 card. If i upgraded the CPU it would go to A64 3500+, 2 gig 3200 ram, x800gto, or new x1800 with HD DVD decoding and an HDCP output. But with all that upgrading I wouldn't be able to start the projector for a few more months (need more commission checks lol). So what do you guys think, should i go for the quick vid card upgrade and build the pj or should I get a proper HTPC and then build the pj in the next few months? I know I'll bne able to play the DVDs on my comp I just am VERY interested in ffdshow and am worried after building that I would be sad that I couldnt fully use it.

To answer that, I would have to know how much you have researched your build yet. If you have not already set yourself to a design, parts list, and overall plan of attack, then I would say do the HTPC first, because it is going to take you some time tofully research your parts, and plan your design. Also, the first part of the build is the outside box, which you could certainly begin even after upgrading your htpc, as the wood is a somewhat nominal fee. If you are going to build a haas designed box, or something other than the standard box, you will probably find that it will take a while before you are done with it, unless you work with wiood a lot. Because of this, you may find that you will have the money to build the PC by the time you are really ready to build it.
On the other hand, if you are planned and ready to go, start the build first. A picture from the pj is better than a non-existent pj with a PC ready to improve it. In this case, build the pj, then research all of the codecs and software program options while saving for your HTPC upgrade. Also, I think you will find that you will be able to do some image enhancement with your current setup.

Hmmm, good point. I mean I have done a LOT of research already into the projection aspects of this already. Although waiting till the pro lens is finally complete might be an idea though as I'd love a 17 right off the bat. Last I read from Brain the samples should be done at the end of September. Granted there are already phenominal results on the little 15s. Ex, flycrj, benchun. Hmmmm, granted I kinda wanna wait on the comp build till the new ATI x1800 cards come out as I know I want a card with the HD DVD acceleration and teh HDCP is a nice touch to boot.

I would be careful not to jump into anything too quickly for the sake of getting it done more quickly. You are going to put a lot of effort into this, so make sure it is as mych what you want as you can, even if that means waiting a little longer to start. Besides, I would imagine their is some more actual planning that you can do.
