Hey guys, i'm midway in assembling my projector. Just can't wait to get my first projection up! smile.gif

Anyway I wanted to ask about placing the lamp. The box I built isn't wide enough to have the center of the lamp in the middle of the box when placed horizontally. With that i'm only left with the choice of having the lamp at about a 45 degree angle from the corner of the box. I was wondering if this will have an effect on the quality of the projection?

I just noticed rev3 of the guide showed pictures of the lamp placed at 45 degree angle too. I'm assuming this is fine as long as the center of the lamp is in the middle of the line when lined up with the lenses and the triplet?

Thanks in advance!

drill a hole in the side of the box and rig it to where the light is in the center. Angles are sucky to work with sad.gif

I'd possibly have to cut out a hole in the side of the box to fit the light in the center. Actually, I was also thinking about mounting it vertical instead of horizontal as that would possibly be in the center of the lenses and triplet.

Check the allowable orientation of the bulb from the manufacturer. Not all bulbs can be mounted at any angle.

Where can I check allowable bulb orientation? Mine is the Ushio UHI - S400DD purchased from the Lumenlab store. I found this PDF here: http://www.ushio.com/Files/UltraArc0604.pdf but it doesn't say anything about bulb orientation.

I did the same thing with my s400 bulb. I was left with the choice of going at an angle or mounting it through the side. The responses I got from the people here is that the s4oo can be mounted at any angle but it may reduce the bulb life. With this information I chose mounting it through the side. I don't regret it at all. The reason being that when I was going to mount it at an angle my ballast would have been on the inside but drilling through the enclosure prompted me to mount it externally. Once you feel the heat coming off the ballast you will realize that it is not needed inside. I used a blank faceplate with a hole in it to cover the back of the mogul and the wire that runs to the ballast. It works very well and I have no heat issues at all to worry about.

Hope this helps

Thanks for that Spank! I'll definitely consider that in mind as I want my first projector to turn out the best it can smile.gif

Only hard part is cutting out a hole from the MDF as I have fixed the box together.
