so ive searched, but im still kind of lost.

for the lcd frame, how do you attach the lcd to the frame? same with the fresnels, is it a piece of wood with a slot running thru it for the lcd to fit into or what? what is the best (and easiest for the non carpenters)?

I like the idea of using the frame that came with the LCD if possible and then mounting that in a wooden frame. (your box may need to be a little bigger though)

If you can't cut some kind of slot you can make a slot by sandwiching together some thinner material like hardboard. Some people have just screwed the LCD frame to a wooden frame without a slot also.

Since you are a noob I would like to stress how fragile the FFC's and edge connectors are and that you don't flex them too much. I would suggest reading for a while before stripping the panel.

For more ideas, check out the plogs.

ive read about being very careful when stripping the panel, and plan to be when i decide on one...ive just been reading a lot of plogs, they have pictures of the frame, but no explanation of how it was done. I just want to make sure i have a clear picture of all i need to do before i go hacking away at everything.

Try to find pictures on this site of what your monitor looks like stripped. The shape of the LCD will dictate what mounting options are available to you (for example, if you look at my PLOG you'll see that I had edge connectors coming off one side, and couldn't simply build a "slot" to fit it into.)

An LCD sled is the safer way to go, since you can keep the LCD safely secured while you finish your box (with all that sawdust flying around, you won't want it there). You can use type-2 Silicon caulking to secure the panel to the frame -- either to the cut-down frame of the monitor or into a wooden frame of your own design (just keep the caulk off the screen!)

Keep searching through these forums... there's no one "best" way to mount the panel, but it helps to see how several others have done it and choose what's best for you.
