hi, i've been working on a pj setup with a 250w hqi bulb and an 8.9 inch 16:9 toshiba panel (1024x600) taken from a portable dvd player for a while.

here's my current cooling setup, (+13 for the uber paint skills).

the two fans are 90mm each

i was wondering if this is effective, or even okay to do. i'm working with a galvanized steel box that's pre assembled minus the lid, so modifications are tough, and done with a dremel + 2423423 cutoff wheels. the current holes would be hard to patch.

thank you!

You need some air flow over the lcd.

The fans are actually not supposed to cool the lamp, they are supposed to keep the lcd cool. Cooling the lamp too much can shatter it! ohmy.gif Its ok if the bulb gets hot, the air flow is just to keep the projector from getting TOO hot from the bulb and to keep the lcd cool.

That above diagram would be a great way to melt your LCD, but I dont think you want to do that.

In the conventional design (check the guide) the air enters through a slot above the LCD, is drawn between the rear fresnel and the LCD (thus cooling both), and exits past the lamp.

Thats what you need to do.
