I have installed zoom player pro 4.50 and ffdshow version 20050727, but zoom player doesn't list the ffdshow video decoder. (I also tried ffdshow version 20020617 witht he same result).

It does list the Cyberlink PowerDVD audio and video decoders (I have powerDVD version 4.0 installed). Shouldn't ffdshow be listed as one of the video decoders?

I'm pretty computer literate and I'm confused about this.

FS,

Have you enabled the advanced controls in Zoom Player/DVD settings ? You should have 4 boxes to choose from. FFD Show is not the decoder, but a post-processor. If you want to use a good (free) decoder (which will be choosen in the two boxes on the right) you can install DeScaler 5, I don't think FFDshow will work correctly with the PowerDVD decoders... or maybe it's just the program itself that FFDshow doesn't work with...

Once you get to the advanced menu, in the box on the lower right, you need to add the special processing here, so select "add" and then choose FFDshow from the list. Then you will have to hit "register" selected codecs (or something to that effect). You will then need to setup FFDshow processing.

Sorry i'm not on my HTPC at the moment, otherwise i'd send you the link for the "simple" setup for FFDshow. As I remember, many people have problems with FFDshow and Zoomplayer and there is a registry mod and some other file that needs to be put in the ZP program directory to get it to run correctly... i'll post more tomorrow unless someone else comes up with it first.

cheers,

sorry im a noob, what is zoom and ffdshow? dvd players?
MrWaxhead
Zoomplayer isa PC dvd player program, that is quite simple and configurable. FFDSHOW is a filter that can sharpen and resize etc your image. You have to set zoom to use FFSHOW and you have to set up FFDSHOW to work right. But once both are done it produces very excellent results. The site brianabs linked to is a good little starting point on setting up FFDSHOW and it shows how to set up zoomplayer to use it. FFSHOW is also very CPU hungry when you push it. The more raw cpu cycles the better, Intel has a edge here for sure. I personally have a old a64 754 2800+ at 2.4 from 1.8 At 1.8 FFDSHOW caused staggering with the levels I like, at 2.4 things are smooth and look great.

I also use FFSHOW to clean up my crappy cable feed into my projector too, I use http://gbpvr.com/ as my pvr software as its free and quite easy to take advantage of FFDSHOW or dScaler. I had tryed beyondTV etc, and it was a nightmare to use FFDSHOW with, you had to edit the program just to use it and it still did not work well. With GBPVR it was very easy to set up and looks pretty damn good considering its a crap NTSC analogue source in.
MrWaxhead
Oh and GBPVR has tons of add ons and plugins in the wiki section that are very cool, you can load up movies from images from daemon tools ets, ad weather tabs, file explorers, DVD Decrypter tabs, tabs to launch your emulators and tons of other stuff.

Hi,

I have a problem with Zoomplayer, it does not output sound to the rear speakers of my sound card. I am using DScaler 5 and have configured the audio codec to output to 4 speakers but it does not work. I have tried ouputing to 4 speakers in WinDVD and that works fine so I think it must be something wrong with Zoomplayer. I am using FFDShow, my OS is Windows XP Pro SP1 and sound card is C-Media. Can anyone help?

Thanks.
