Is there any guide that teaches me how to attach my projection box to the ceiling / roof of my house so it is not besides or in front of the people?

Thanks.

If you don't know what you're doing, and you don't want your ceiling in bits on the floor, I suggest you are VERY careful about what you do.

In theory you need to attach the projector to the wooden beams above your ceiling, but you need to ensure first that they are strong enough to take the weight. Obviously do not try to attack the projector into the plasterboard!

I suggest you find a friend or family member that is good at DIY, and you ask their help. You don't want a projector falling on you whilst you are watching a movie!

All you have to do is make a bracket to hold it (as long as the ceiling isn't too tall) and attach it to a beam.

I've regularly used drywall anchors like this:

They are rated at 50lbs each so one on each corner should hold 200lbs although I wouldn't go past 50lbs which should be fine for even a MDF PJ. Screwing into a bean/joist would be better but these anchours work well.

Be careful though... just because the *screws* can handle that weight doesn't mean the *drywall* will.

The rating is on the drywall (white) part, I haven't had an problems with putting weight on them yet, although its generally been in the wall with the weight hanging down rather than the ceiling with the weight trying to pull the screw out of the wall.

We really don't know the thickness or age of the drywall in his ceiling so even if it works for some, it is too dangerous to recommend it for all.

I would never suspend anything from a ceiling without securing to at least one joist (save maybe a smoke alarm). Possibly it could be considered overcautious (I don't think so) but it is generally accepted practice.

Oh my GOD! Do not try to suspend a projector from the ceiling with molly bolts - they WILL fail eventually!! Drywall is a composite of gypsum particles and once a crack begins to propogate - you are in trouble. Attach only to a ceiling joist would be my serious advice.

PS: I live in Sunny California where the ground shakes quite often as well ... ohmy.gif

Anyway. I don't think that is what joephill was asking.

You can mount the projector from the ceiling as many have. There is no guide for this per se, but there are plenty of good examples in the plogs and project galleries. Start with joewerb's bakery box projector. Good luck.
